virtual, my initial comment was to be beanie replaces cap lost at PMC. then I read more. I don't know how you guys hold you composure. I panic when it gets dark in the bush in penno. we were only talking about the run lying on the medium strip at southport. specifically, how you trail ultra runners are like modern day explorers. excuse typing- learning to use PDA. cheers plu

Quick report on my own run is on my blog.
More comments later. Good running by the boys. More material to work with regarding a Blue Mountains 100 miler in 2007.

Hi All
Thanks firstly to Mister G for organising the run. I really did have a good time. ANd as several people out there who have run with me before know, I don't mind 'exploring a bit' as it really adds to the fun. (Just ask Jim Moody and a certain training run for six foot track earlier this year, out near THornleigh.)
I had a good day the longest part was the first 42km before we met up with the support crew. (Thanks to Lois and Mel for the coffee and fried rice.) THe climb up from cedar creek through narrow neck and on to Katoomba, was tough especially when the wind hit us as we got out of the shaded section in the valley.
After going through the airport and picking up the chips from Mel. (Can chips really make one burp as much these seemed too???
Next down through the Gand Canyon, up to Evans Lookout and on to Govetts, Pulpitt and then to Perry's Lookdown which is where the fun really began. Down Perry's track. At the top is a sign which say's "Experienced Walkers Only". At this stage it is only Virtual and I left and we had done about 75km in a bit under 12hours I turned and asked if he thought we were experienced enough. We laughed and went on down the track....
Well we can both attest to the fact that if NPWS got one sign right in that park it was that one. We got down the climb which took about an hour and onto the bottom of the valley, we went through the valley quite well, then the fun really began and about 6 hours later we climbed out that valley, to find our very much relieved crews and that ice cold pizza that Virtual referred to in his report.
Thanks to Virtual, it was good out there a challange as we expected and we were both confident that we could get out if we needed to by going back the way we came. I feel that we always knew where were within a grid square or two, and we also knew we were in a valley with the river on our right side and flowing down hill behind us. The main issue was safety with the dark and the ravines, the bush fire damage and landslides.
All in all a great day and I can't wait to do it again. Look forward to the next time out with the guys again.
Thanks to Aunty K for your kind words and well done on your Half and on the gold coast and to Truckie for his marathon time.
Happy trails to you all
