G'day,

I'm taking on the trailwalker for the first time tomorrow and the SportsShield that I ordered last week to deal with chaffing issues hasn't arrived!! Does anyone know of anywhere in Sydney where I can get some SportsShield, Bodyglide, or equivalent at the last minute?? After work today is basically my only chance to get to the shops.

I might have to resort to vaseline but I'd rather have some proper stuff.

Another question, when wearing a headlamp are you best to use the white halogen headlamp or the normal torch light... my guess is that the batteries will last much longer if you use the halogen lamp.

Thanks for your help!

I bought my Bodyglide from Rebel in the Pitt Street Mall.

RunWild, from what I could see, the halogen lights are more of a straight beam but the LEDs offer more spread of light, albeit not quite as bright as the halogens.

Rebel has bodyglide, as Chappo suggested

slight hijack (sorry) - Rebel in Ringwood does not have BodyGlide. Their bimbette couldn't even remember its name for more than 3 seconds as she asked different people about it.

Does anyone know where I can get it in Melbourne outer east?

Runwild, as a fellow TrailWalker (runner??)

Chafing - Can't buy Sportshield over the counter in NSW, so Rebel for bodyglide (what about the runners shop in Randwick?)

Headtorch - the LED lamps offer much longer burn time, but a narrower beam. I don;t think there is any real argument about the halogen "traditional" globe based torches having better distance and width, but the number of hours of quality light is quite low. All of our team have LED head torches, and I can recommend paddy palin and the other outdoor gear shops in the city (sussex st)
They have a huge range of LED and filament globe (halogen, etc) torches to touch, feel, see.

Good luck with your search, and good luck tomorrow (and Sat, hopefully not Sun ;-))

Runwild,

I have been using a product called "NEAT' 3B Action Cream. It is desingned to prevent sweat rash and chafing. Get it from a chemist. It is in a jar like the old Ponds cream came in.

Runwild  - I got the 3B stuff in Safeway last week (about $11). Seems OK as a substitute for Bodyglide as far as chafing goes. Quite different stuff though, very wet and gooey. No use in the "nips" if you have problems there.

Louise I think Rebel has lost the plot with Bodyglide as I had also been looking at Highpoint where it used to be quite prominent amongst the running shoes.  Forgot to ask when I was in the city store a week or 2 ago. I am heading for Runners World (Kew) on the weekend to see.

Thanks folks!!

Every Rebel I call is out of stock of Bodyglide. I'll give the 'Runners Shop' in Randwick a call but I think I'll end up going with the 3B stuff.

I've got myself a headlamp but it has a few settings and I was just wondering if one of them was going to drain the battery quicker than the others.

I really hope the weather holds off a bit.... I don't want to be walking in the mud for 100 km!!

Thanks again

Hi Louise, Rebel at Fountain Gate have Bodyglide if it is not too far ?
But don't ask the sales kids, as they will have no idea they have it, or where to find it in the store.
I found it by accident in the 'shoes/foot care section' ie: where the laces/shoe cleaner/foam inserts are.
Mentioned this to a more senior person on the way out, and the reply was "oh, that's what that's used for, someone said to put it in the 'runners' section"

Edit: Runner's World (the shoe store not mag) in Kew (Vic) had BodyGlide last time I looked, but $5 more expensive than Rebel.

I mentioned on another thread that my first bodyglide experience at Rebel had them looking in the cricket section as they believed it was for waxing bats.  My next experience was much the same as yours RunWild.  On a quick stop-over at Rebel at Tuggerah on the way to C2S, I found they'd decided to stop stocking it altogether

If you happen to come down with a case of chaff  a quick fix is white zinc on the irrated area.  Put it on before you go to bed, will be a little uncomfortable, but you should wake up as good as new.

Another good home quickfix is cornstarch or (Edit, there's another name for it like Baking Powder that you use in Gravy making), tried this ages ago and it worked.
Great for baby nappy rash apparently !

More good info here on this walking website.

Edit: A few of the other products listed sound a bit of a worry like: Udder Balm, chamois BUTT'r, and Bag Balm  ;)

Bag balm is primarily for cows udders so you were close with the second guess.  Works great as a lube and also has some healing properties.

Use corn flour, it leaves all that fancy stuff for dead. I use it in all my multi day autra races i have tried every thing and nothing comes close to corn flour

Melbourne runners, I might have been a bit hard on Rebel - my post above. IT IS AVAILABLE AT REBEL IN THE CITY.

There is plenty of Bodyglide in their city store (off Bourke St Mall) at least. $19.95. Its on a either of 2 Rebel Accesorises stands along with foor accessories -  laces, heel cups, arch supports etc which are in amongst the womens tennis shoes row in the shoe area.

Yep that sounds like where I found it Slowaz at Fountain Gate, no one in the store knew it was there, or in fact stocked it.

Loved Miners post regarding Bodyglide for Cricket bats, reckon you could probably wax a surf board with it too

Well ignore that post ! Fountain gate have since run out.
According to their computer system, the Ringwood and Knox stores both have 6 in stock.
I'd go back to Ringwood and have a look in the shoe laces section, you'll probably find it before the sales staff do. It's usually in a sealed plastic thing that hangs on a peg.

Good Luck !

Edit: Knox had 4 left on Saturday, you will find them in the Cricket section opposite the huge range of Coloured Boxes (protectors). Looks like Miners experience not only applies to the one Rebel store.
