Sunday 18th December 2005 @ 0400AM; The 45km 6-INCH TRACK MARATHON winds its way up the Mundi Biddi Trail with the backdrop of an early morning sunrise draped over the Darling Scarp, and the plains below. The race starts from the bottom of Goldmine Hill with a 2km ascent, followed by 43km of undulating trails. The race hits the Mundi Biddi after about 4km and then follows it all the way into Dwellingup, crossing Scarp Rd, passing Whittakers Mill, Del Park Rd, and Turners Hill. The 6-inch passes close to Oakley Dam, the Marrinup POW site, and finishes in serene Dwellingup.Some beautiful bush to run through... The start line is situated about 90 minutes drive southeast of Perth, Western Australia, at the corner of Del Park Rd and Whittakers Rd, just off South West Highway in the tiny town of North Dandalup. This race is Inspired by NSW's famous/infamous 6-FOOT Track Marathon in the Blue Mountains. This post has been edited by trailblazer777: Nov 1 2007, 12:05 AM |

Six inches is quite small for a horse. More width needed.

Yeah; 7 starters in the inaugural 45km 6-inch track (Ultra?) Marathon;
1st; Dave won in 4 hours 02 minutes 2nd Cota 4 hrs 22 minutes 3rd? Warren 4 hours 27 minutes 4th? Andrew C 4 hours 45 minues 5th Nathan 5 hours 25 6th Myself(aka JON)6 hours 25 minutes. 27km DNF Suzy...(Suzy finished Ironman WA a few weeks beforehand) .... link is here; http://wamc.proboards41.com/index.cgi?boar...27100618&page=7 -Cota,Warren & Andrew C. made a navigational error early on that cost them a lot of time and probably Cota a chance of winning...in my opinion... -Hills seemed to affect things more than expected I thought... -also for backmarkers like me, the heat, humidity and dehydration an issue towards end... Max temp for Metro hit 32-35 at 1154am I finished at about 1045am...and it may have been hotter in the hills...humid too... Hope to see a few more starters if this is a goer again in 2006....Likely date could be 17th December 2006 Tough Challenge!, Awesome experience!!! :) :) |

Thanks to all runners and helpers for turning up to the first 6'' race. The course is generally about single lane gravel road width with some narrow sections and rises up the Darling Scarp (it's fairly hilly but definitely not mountainous). The next race is set down for 17/12/2006 so if coming to WA for Christmas come early and experience a unique bush race.
Could anyone tell me the rule for ultra times. i.e. do you truncate the seconds or round to nearest full minute or round up as in partial seconds for road races. :unsure: |

the momentum is building...looking like 16-20 starters already with the rush in the last 2 weeks still to come...advert in Runners World magazine? as well as the race report in AURA's Ultramag March edition is spreading the word....better get in some good hills training myself if I want to have a good shot at it again in just over a months time... also relay option of 2x22km legs available....start time 0430 for now but may change with the advent of daylight saving...

just over a month to go now, the field for 2007 is starting to look strong. Potentially the best field in quality (faster runners), and quantity (number of runners) in the 3rd year of this race.
Have several sub 3.30 marathon people interested this year, plus at least 2 who are capabale of going sub 3 for the marathon, and both have developed significant ultra credentials. Second place getter last year went on to run about 4hrs 40 in 6-foot this year. We are hoping to get over 20 runners this year. Great prep run for 6-foot. get in touch or see the link on my signature if you want more info! Also check the local WA chat about this race at http://wamc.proboards41.com/index.cgi?boar...5074&page=1 This post has been edited by trailblazer777: Nov 1 2007, 12:13 AM -------------------- ---

Yeah the field looks like it could be really strong this year. I've said it before but one of the probems with me running Marathons and Ultras is that I would love to watch how the pans out at the front, but i never can. I mean there's nothing better than watching a race develop (amongst the leaders), and seeing whose surging or who looks better and finally who ends up winning. 6 inch this year could be a cracking race for 1st/2nd, and I dare say that the battle for 3rd 4th and 5th might be tight as well. I'm expecting to be around 4:20 which should put me in the battle for 3rd hopefully.
Many miles need to be covered before this race (Relay 4 Life 24hr, Ridge Top Walk, Beach to Bluff)so I'm not worrying too much about it. happy training -------------------- Nate's Blog
