Hi all,

Now I know there must be some running shoe experts out there!!

Back in my pre-children, pre-marriage days - when I had time to do lots of running :o - I used to wear Nike Triax running shoes. I'm talking around 10 years ago now - they were a cool purple and dark green colour. Geez I loved those shoes.... :D

Anyway - saving my pennies now for the post-Xmas sales. And I'm wondering - what would be the equivalent shoe in the Nike range to my always loved old Nike Triax pair??? I wish I still had them so I could compare, but they were well and truly used up and disposed of loooong ago.

Would appreciate any advice!!! :)

Cheers,
Abby

Why not try the Nike Structure Triax 8 or 9. I use them a lot, not sure if they are the same as the Triax but they have the same name.

Absent Husband, Like FakePlasticTrees has mentioned the New Nike Triax 9 would be very similar to the older models, But if when you try them they dont feel right, I use Nike Air Pegasus and Nike Vomero which are nuetral running shoes with great feel and response, but if your still after Shoes with anti pronation abilities try the Air Equalon, also a great cushioning shoe whichs is probaly the next step up from Triax.

Hope this helps.

hi AB!

I remember the Air Triax! one of few shoes I don't have in my collection and has not been re-released yet! - it had a PU (polyurethane) heel to encapsulate the exposed air bag and a fantastic fit through heel and forefoot.

this was definitely a neutral based shoe (no extra medial posting - no anti pronation devices)
As Neavesy suggests, the Pegasus and Vomero are two neutral technical models from Nike but will feel different to what you remember the Air Triax - the pick of the bunch is the Vomero with a lightweight, responsive feel.

if you still want the exposed air, the Air 180 model and the Air 360 models are also available - with the 180 being most similar to the old Air Triax.

as shoes and brands mutate there are actually some alternatives out there that stack up quite well against the Nike options - for example, the Saucony Grid Triumph may be nicest for feel, features and profile compared to the old Air Triax.

the most important info is that, just as shoes change, so do your circumstances - are you the same weight, have you had any foot or leg injuries, will you be running the same distances and speed as yesteryear, has your running style changed at all?

please consider these details before you make your next purchase and possibly have your shoes fitted correctly by a reputable retailer or obtain some advice from a podiatrist.

hope this is not too overwhelming - it's just that I'm a sneaker head...
