I pulled up with cramps as soon as I finished and forcing down some eggs n toast with the group afterwards was a bigger task than the run itself.
However now that I am home and reading my R4YL and this site, I am getting all excited that Canberra is nearly upon us.
10 weeks tomorrow till the big day so for me that means 7 more weeks of training before a taper and the race. Only 6 more long runs of 30+ .....that's something to smile about already!

Was it hot and humid? I have an easy moring watching my daughter play softball. My long run is tomorrow and just 23k (at about 5 pace or better ) and then 7 k's a bit faster than MP. I hope the weather is kind tomorrw in Sydney.

Actually not too bad. Yes it was hot towards the end of the run but along the river the breezes were good! I didn't notice it being overly humid so can't complain there.
Hope you get some of the same tomorrow for your run!

i've just come back from a week in Port Douglas with a new and profound respect for anyone who regularly trains in those kind of conditions.. i was up at 05:30 to beat the heat but was more buggered than ever just cause of the humidity.. dreadful.. no wonder i didn't see any other runners!!

Deadcat, training in Port Douglas would have been horrendous at this time of year. We complain about the humidity here in Brisbane but 2,000K further north is another story.

No solidified target yet except for sub 3 (for the marathon).
Going through to 50k as well.

Is there, for example, a swimming pool reasonably close (not wanting to walk too many ks after doing 50)?

Hi Otter,
You can wash up at the School after the Marathon - right at the finish line - so very convenient

Thanks for info. Knocking off issues one by one- flight, accommodation, pace strategy, nutrition plan, shower / cold water clean-up........,
Just remains to actually lodge a late entry!

Have you entered + 50 km as well?
Good luck to everyone racing, running, running and walking.
I am not up to half let alone a full marathon.
Made donation to SMH half and that's not looking promising.

I’m assuming that this only relates to people competing in the Australian Masters Athletics Marathon Championships, ACT Marathon Championships, ACT Veterans Marathon Championships, Kembla Joggers Marathon Championships and Sydney Striders Marathon Championships.
I certainly hope that any of us regular marathon entrants who take a drink from someone along the way won’t be disqualified and given a DNF.
As the option for having personal drinks at drink stations is only to drop them off on Saturday afternoon and I’ve confirmed they won’t be refrigerated overnight I’m not interested in grabbing a lukewarm bottle of sportsdrink in the second half of the run.
Hope everyone's taper is going well. As expected, it is driving me mad.

Booked accommodation on the internet last night, very much a spur of the moment thing. Have absolutely no expectations for the marathon (most of the training has been on trail the last few months, preparing for Six Foot and Melbourne Trailwalker), so no pressure, just going to enjoy the atmosphere
Here's hoping the 2005 infamous "Valley of Death" furnace won't repeat itself though (my new CR visor should help - thanks Seris for the tip!).
Is Waterbag providing water and electrolyte sachets out on the course again this year?? Haven't seen any postings on that.

Intermediate stations at 7.5km, 12.5km, 17.5km, 22.5km, 27.5km, 32.5km and 37.5km will provide water sachets and sponges. pb gels will be available at some Refreshment Stations – final details will be in the race program.

It looks like it might be a little warm (shades of 05) but hopefully will be OK.
I would have loved to be there again this year but sadly old age, injury and family committments got in the way.
Good luck to Blue Boy in his attempt to come in under 3:30, he has trained hard so fingers crossed.
Have a great time everyone and I look forward to reading the post race postings.

P.S I think my new Avatar kind of resembles me, and the way I run.

Really looking forward to this marathon, as I dont have to run the damn thing!. Will be fun to kick back on Saturday night at Rydges, with a few beers, not having to worry about the morning. Hopefully I can find few like-minded drinking buddies. Looks like we wont make it down there in time to run the 10k on Sat (bugger!), as Nick's soccer is at 12.00 and we will leave soon thereafter. So I can be found, either holding up the bar at Rydges Capitol Hill on Sat night, or will see you from the sidelines on Sunday. Cant wait

At 10am the fog had cleared and it is now 13C, with a predicted top temp of 25C. If it stays like this you will have a great run!
Best of luck everyone.
