Hi all,

Just chatting with my sister who is a newbie runner and she was searching everywhere for socks that have a zipper in them for her keys. She went to Rebel and enquired and they called in the 'men with white coats' and told her they didn't exist.
I'm sure I have read a thread touching on this very topic. Any help on where I can get these socks would be greatly appreciated.
Take Care :) B)

Why am I not shocked about the response your sister got from Rebel, I went into one of their new stores lately asking for Body Glide, the young guy sent me to the cricket section, because he thought it was something you coated your cricket bat with :)

She must have missed out on the Special K New Balance Footpod freebee that they were giving away last year. Noice.

Perhaps this will do ? :)

Whilst in San Fransisco 18 months ago, I visited the Nike store and purchased a little grey pouch which you put your keys in and then it is attatched to your shoe with your shoe lace.
It works wonders. You simply can't even feel that it is there whilst running. I would strongly recommend that you go to the Nike shop and ask them, because it has stopped the need to worry about where my keys are whilst I run.

A few year ago my wife bought me some at either Target or K-Mart, she can't remember which now. To be honest, they weren't hugely successful and lost all shape and elasticity very quickly.

We tried to get some last year.. Couldn't find any retail store that had them. We did find a couple websites from America though. Unfortunately I didn't have the websites bookmarked, but if you google you should be able to find them.

I got a pair from Kmart.

They are a thicker pair of socks than I normally wear.

I usually wear a pair of "Ruggers" shorts and they have plenty of pockets.

Didn't like the feel of the socks but people who like a thicker pair may find them okay.

Fuel Belt make a little shoe wallet which I bought from Running Science in Rozelle for about $10. It's just the thing for putting my key and ID in. IMHO better than socks with a pocket.

I bought something similar by FuelBelt from InTraining here in Brissie for $14.95. I really like it, at first it feels like it's going to be too warm and uncomfortable, but in practice I don't notice it's there.

Much better than having keys jingling around in my running shorts!

I have found that far and away the best solution is a long shoestring loop threaded though the key(s), and I put it around my neck and drop the key(s) down the front of my singlet or T shirt.

I don't feel it there as I run, but it is easily accessible at the end of a run, and I just hang it up inside the door when I get home for the next time.

House door key and car key, and/or bike lock key on the same loop.

Now that is a good idea. I think I have already told the story on another thread when I went out for a run somewhat under the weather and took my car key instead of my house key. I got back home to find that my wife had gone out in the car. So I couldn't get into the house, the car wasn't there, I had no money and I was absolutely rooted after the run. It was a miserable time while I waited for her to return!

JD, something very similar happened to me some time ago. Still it was nice to discover just how burglar proof the house was. I would have had to break a window or door glass panel to get in. The real pain was that, through the kitchen window, I could see MY bunch of keys sitting on the bench. :)

I did something similar - house key and car key were with me though. So, at the end of a long run, I stretch out, get in the car and go to unlock the steering wheel lock...err...bugger!
On the upside, I got an extra 8k on my long run that day... :)
Now I just loop the car key AND steering wheel lock key on my shoes, and the rest stays in the car.

I'm with Azza. I just loop the keys through my lace, tuck the car key under my laces and do a double knot. It costs nothing. Of course it doesn't work if you take the house key instead of the car key, John!!! I don't take a steering wheel key, since I'm praying that somebody will steal the car!

This thread gives me a good giggle. I'm always amused to read about the gadgets people will happily buy when there is a perfectly simple (and usually free) solution available:

* diairies or notepads vs fancy software
* luminescent ID badges vs simple keytag on shoe lace (on other shoe!!)
* keys under laces vs a special pouch
* bodyglide vs paper tape or bandaids
* fancy strap-on water bottles vs drinking fountains

The list goes on. Each to their own, of course, but I never cease to be amazed by the list of gagets that people will buy in the name of their beloved hobby. You'd need your car for every run just to carry the gear!!

Now please excuse me. I have to go and re-charge my Garmin GPS, upload some new songs to my MP3 player and download the software updates for my on-line jogging diary!!

You make a lot of sense knight60, except with this one:-

There are a few important places where my sportshield/bodyglide goes that paper tape or bandaids just can't. :)
