The stick in the shin was truly a camera moment. Alas neither of us had one so the war wound could not be shared. Scurry was very dismissive of the whole situation until I pulled the stick out, and it kept on coming and coming. Both of us looked at each other and the first thing we thought of some earlier advice about carrying bandage and dressing. Definitely going to be an addition to the pack.
Views from the valley floor and on the way back up Kedumba are really stunning. Mt Solitary looks an absolute killer run when viewed up close. Anyone looking for a great out and back could park at the old hospital and head down Kedumba, back along Sublime Pt ridge trail toward Katoomba and back. This would be about a 30km run with a tough hill to finish on.

If you check the route for the blue labyrinth the section from Katoomba back to waterboard gates via Kedumba sounds the same. it is a great run and have been toying with a waterboard gates-kedumba-mt solitary-katomba- leura-kedumba-waterboard gates circuit.

Kevin,
Would be a great circuit. After checking out Mt. Solitary, I would be keen to go over the top. I could only imagine you would get views all round from up there - just keep away from the edge!!!
I think for a bit of fun, incorporate the scenic railway into your run. With the clockwise run from Kedumba it would work coming back along Federal Pass to the fire trail. Just like black stump with the ferry.
Cheers

Great minds
What I've been thinking about is creating the "Solitary Night" fat ass.
Start (and finish) at Furber Steps Katoomba (plenty of parking at Katoomba Pk and no probs with disturbing sleeping residents) at midnight or 1:00am and do a clockwise loop of Mt Solitary via Federal Pass, Dardanelles and Sublime Pt trails - around 34k give or take.
Breakfast in Katoomba and back home before the family is out of bed :B
Will do a recce in the not too distant future.
Cheers, 2P

Do it on a nice balmy August/September Katoomba night, the weather should be perfect!

2P,
Sounds great, but I dont think I would get too many view from Mt Solitary at 4am in the morning. If you time the run to climb Mt. Solitary at dawn you would be on a winner. Great location to see the sunrise and would be a bit safer. That would get us back for brekky about 8am.
Better still, what about an aid station on Mt Solitary for breakfast. Now that would be an effort that we would all appreciate.

Geez the Kedumba Pass got a bit of a workout on the weekend from cooltrailrunners, I was there on saturday. Rod and Scurry sounds like you had an enjoyable run through some pretty interesting terrain. That Kedumba Pass is a favourite of mine. If you guys ran down from Leura Falls you probably missed even more of the really steep stuff down to the farm. I regularly did this as my sekrit hill training for 6 ft , tough climb back out and as you say very similiar to Pluvio and Mini Mini. Always heaps of kangaroos grazing in the clearing. Am definetly in for Kevins proposed run taking in Mt Solitary, have always wanted to do this run . Maybe should be done close to 6 ft as there are some serious ups and downs. 2P its got to be day time too much great scenery to enjoy. BTW if anyone is doing some sekrit training runs along the Oaks fire trail for Woodford to Glenbrook let me know.
Cheers

Just a reminder
The run over Mt Nebo,Mt Pupiana and Mt Burelli which is 21k, starts at 8.00am on Sunday at the bridge behind the high school on Obriens road, for people coming from Sydney drive down Mt Ousley past the University and along the freeway take the Figtree off ramp turn right go past Macdonalds for about 500metres then turn right at Obriens road and you will see a bus shelter on your left next to a bridge.

Scurry,
You obviously had a productive day at home minding the kids.
