Hi there,
I ran 11 : 19 and although slowing considerably from Turramurra onwards and pretty happy with the result. Last 15 k's were very wet and cold and the harbour bridge had never looked so good. Funny to climb the opera house steps, and then plod off home into the rain but as my first fatass I guess thats the way it goes. Had a great run to Cowan with Matt (thanks for the company and conversation), pretty lonely after that except for running with John from Mount Colah to top of Bobbin head. It was good to finally meet a few cool runners, hope to see you again at 12 ft track. cheers Innes |

Congratulations to all the finishers. Absolutely fantastic times for the conditions. I really thought under 10 hours would be very very difficult because of the rain and wind. I amazed by the determination shown to stick it out in perhaps the worst day in Sydney for a long long time.

Brick finished in 9:49 and then had a 2:30 hour trip home on a bus and train. Under normal circumstances he could have run the 21 km from the Opera House in 1:30 Thanks for posting my time yesterday plu. Thanks to Kevin for the lift up and I saw you drive past a few times which certainly makes you feel like you are not totally alone. Thanks to Louie for the support from the start all the way to the end of Bobbin Head RD it very is much appreciated. The greatest thanks have to go to Plu a absolute stella effort above and beyond the call of duty. The two aid stations you set up ended up being life savers, thanks again mate. To everybody I ran with even if it was for a short time thanks for the conversation and companionship. Milov and I had a nice chat walking out of Bobbin Head, great run Milov very strong over the last 20 KMs. Just talked to Matt Tumminello and he finished in 10:50 feeling very cold and sorry for himself, but still very happy today with his efforts. If I get time during the week I will try to write a race report. A tired but happy Brick -------------------- Brick's Blog?

Hi All
Sorry for the delay in posting... Firstly, I have definitely got to thank all of the support out on the run, Ted, Plu, Kevin and Louie. Very much appreciated. As everyone who has done anything like this knows, support on these runs makes the world of difference, even more so on a dodgy weather day! Congrats to everyone who started and especially those that successfully finished. Fantastic effort. Big CONGRATS to Milov and Brick, on your great times. As for myself, and my mates from our TW team: We ran as a team all the way to Berowra where Noel stopped and picked up Peter's car. Time approx 4:50. David then contiuned with us to just before the Kuring-gai Chase NP turnoff approx 6:00. Peter continued to the bottom of Bobbin Head where Noel picked him up, approx 6:50, and I continued to the Pacific Highway, where I stopped, approx 7:40. We're all pretty happy with our effort, as part of our preparation for the TW. Personally, I'm now looking forward to next Sun's run, the Jabulani Challenge from Berowra to Lindfield, which covers in reverse a lot of this year's TW course. This will give me three consecutve Sun's of over 40km runs, something that I never done before. Just hoping that the rain will stop between now and then, otherwise there may be a few creeks that we will be swimming across! Finally, it is really great to see so much interest in 11 people doing something absolutely crazy on a Saturday! Thank you for that interest! Chris |

Congratulations to all who started great times by everyone have to agree with you Chris bloody crazy especially standing around at the start in the wind and rain for 30 min waiting for the 7.15am train, still think going to the gym and using a treadmill was a better idea All the best Lou |

Jan Herrman obviously thought better of his pike out on Saturday:
QUOTE Couldn't stop thinking about the brave souls who started in Gosford yesterday - they were certainly more heroic than I felt yesterday morning. So I went out today and walked the course in what I think must have been slightly less atrocious but still trying conditions: Persistent rain up to about Pie In The Sky (got totally soaked), then longer and longer breaks in the rain but quite windy, dry from about the Turramurra entrance to the National Park.
Started at 7am, finished at 8pm for a total of exactly 13 hours. Very pleased to have maintained an average walking speed of >7 km/h over that distance (target for Badwater is 5 km/h average). -------------------- |

Congrats to a great effort last weekend by all that turned up. Seems like there were some great runs out there considering the conditions faced.
I was hoping to run but committed myself to doing some renovations at my parents house. -------------------- |

Decided to try to be completely self sufficient apart from water top ups.
I think I ended up carrying over 8kg on my back: 9 bananas, 6 avos, 1/2 kilo dates, 4 litres of dates blended with water. Had a thoroughly enjoyable time, venturing along the almost completely abandoned Old Pacific Hwy, with water gushing over rocks, across the road, bark and branches strewn all over the road. Nice to be amongst nature in action! The wind crossing the Hawkesbury River was enough to blow my R4YL cap off and the rain that followed during the climb back up was pretty stiff. After Mooney Mooney, I knew I must be in trouble when Kevin came by and was asking if I realised how big the hill was that I was on. I said "not really", but was left thinking, wow, I must look really bad. The hill didn't seem much of a hill by Great North Walk standards, but it was reasonably long. Definitely a jog/walk pattern creeping in for me by then. Since before the Hawkesbury Bridge the tendons in the front of my left ankle were sore and slightly swollen. That slowed me down, then running style went out the window and my right hip flexor got sore. Had to lift it higher than normal with each stride to ease the soreness. More and more walking came into the picture which cold, wet weather isn't very forgiving of. I got really cold and had to pull the pin at Cowan Station after around 5hrs 10 mins...Louie had the exact time written down. I'm not used to so much road running but I think the weight on my back was the clincher. To have finished, I think I needed to have planned more fast walking rather than run myself to the ground and wear rain protection to keep warm enough. Loved the experience. Every race is a win! I'm sure you'll see me back next year. Thanks so much to Kevin, Plu and Louie for the best support and race organisation anyone could ask for. Thrax, nice too see you giving it a go.
GNW 100 miles not long know. At least you can place stuff at aid stations for that. Hope to see you soon. PS. Did you get a bike yet? Brick -------------------- Brick's Blog?

Yeah, aid stations will be heavenly :-)
It's been on my mind, but I still haven't got a bike. Life's been quite time challenged between travelling for work, band, running, and all the other good stuff life throws my way. Should be able to find time next month to check 'em out. -------------------- Raw Aussie Athlete

actually it was very slow, given the event was 2 mths ago. It took a while to get the splits off the judges.
