i'm 6 weeks post op after having a "large Haglund's lesion excised" from my right heel and will be looking to re-commence running in 4 weeks or so...

my thoughts are that i will need new shoes and am wondering what sort of things i should look for...

appropriate advice would be much appreciated!

Hi Allrounder,

Ask your pod about the silipos heel socks. Silipos make heaps of silicon gel products to protect post-surgery skin/scar-tissue. It can also reduce the lumpiness of scarring as it releases a softening agent into the skin at the same time as it cushions.

Not cheap stuff but re-usable and extremely effective. Most shoes would be fine if these are worn against the skin.

Hope this helps.

thanks Andy, I actually have one of these socks...i wore it a lot pre-surgery to reduce friction from my shoes...my scar is actually lump-free so i'm pretty pleased with that...

i figured i had to get new shoes anyway because my current ones will have shaped themselves to the lump i used to have!
