Hey all,

currently running in Asics Nimbus and time to get a new pair. Thinking about trying a diff make. What are the equivalent of the Nimbus with other manufacturers.

Try the Mizuno wave rider 10's, my favourite at the moment, found the Nimbus on the heavy side. Also Mizuno have improved the quality of the Riders over the previous releases 8 and 9.

The Rider 7's were my favourites years ago but the build quality dropped with the 8's and 9's.

You can always check out LOCO (add from the front page) for the heaviest models and talk to Kevin about it what he thinks

would certainly be much cheaper, and there is a roumour, that all those runners who switched to loco heavy model are quite happy (the name of the model is out of my memory, I am using their lightest racing model).

Brooks have the Glycerin which I find excellent. Also Asics have a lower market Cumulus which is also excellent - current model $145 at Leo Russell or $139 for previous model at Stringers online. Older model is a 2E if you need width, new model is a D I think.

As for me, I just bought a new pair of ..... Nimbus yesterday - first ones for 18 months - apparently they are a little wider now - we'll see. They are heavy but are great support and long lasting. They were $185 at Leo Russell.

I currently have:
Nimbus
Glycerin
Cumulus
Adrenaline
1110
DS Trainers

All for slightly different purpose. Mainly to fill up my side of the wardrobe.

I've previously run in Asics Nimbus & Cumulus, Mizuno Rider & Creation and also Pegasus. Currently have a pair of Saucnony Grid Trigon Ride 3's and absolutely love them. If you go this way though, be sure to get the 'Ride' version and not the 'Guide' which has added medial support - no good for we neutral runners!

If you were happy with the Asics Nimbus you may want to try the New Balance 1024 which is a major upgrade this year over the NB 1023. What sold me on the NB over Asics was the ability to get sizing in 2E for the wider toe box and I own both models. Another direct equivalent of the Nimbus is the Mizuno Wave Creation 7 which I also own, but it seems to be much firmer than the Nimbus and NB1024 so it is restricted to trails only for me. I believe the new Mizuno Wave Creation 8 have been released so you may be able to find the Wave Creation 7 on discount. I just got mine for $80 online.

You won't find a better neutral shoe than the mid weight Nike Pegasus TC, or if you are after a heavier option try the Pegasus.

Worn & loved the Mizuno Wave Creation, Adidas Adistar (neutral) and Nike Pegasus.

However I'm now in the Brooks Glycerin and feel like I've come home. Easily the most comfortable high mileage shoe I've ever worn.

The stability/anti-pronation shoes took over from the early 80's and made a lot of money for shoe companies.

Good to see the 'neutral' shoe revolution catching on now, and good to see people in the rehab business also advocating it- and excellent choices too, ET.

IMHO the Adidas Super Nova Cushion are a good neutral high mileage shoe.
They are also a bit lighter than the Nimbus.

I'll add my kudos to the Waver Rider. I've several pairs of Wildwood, which is an off-road shoe based on the Wave Rider. The Rider 10 has changed a little since previous versions, with more room in the toe box, and a little less arch support. It's designed for efficient runners.

I bought 2 pairs on eBay a few weeks ago, total price including shipping was AUD210, which I thought was OK.

So much so, that I just ordered another couple of pairs!

I was always an Nimbus man. Loved my Nimbus' (or is it Nimbi when you have more than one?) and swore I'd never change. Went to Active Feet in Armadale (Melbourne) on a recommedation of a mate. THis is one of those places where they put you on the treadmill to watch your feet - they are trained podiatrists.

Long story short, they recommended Glycerin and I sold out on Asics.

I couldn't be happier - they are lighter and, whilst I never had problems structurally with Nimbus - my feet did heat up over about 20km. Not so with the Brooks.

I'm almost due for a new pair of shoes and I'll go back to this joint. They're not the cheapest (probs $20 over Sportsmart or similar) but I like the service and knowledge of their products.

By the way, I have no disclosures to make, just a happy customer!

ET's comments would be my vote too.

Thanks all for that, I am going to go to Running Science in Rozelle and get a new pair of shoes, don't think I will get Nimbus this time round. Has anybody bought shoes from Running Science before? If so are they helpful?

Hi,

Have been wearing mainly Nimbus for about 5 years now. I went to a podiatrist and he gave me a list of about 5 different shoes to wear. Can't remember the whole list but it included Nimbus, Empire,
Glycerin and Wave Rider.

I did try a couple of pairs of Wave Rider I think it was version 8. Problem was that I only got about 600km out of them before they were offering no support. So I am now back in Nimbus version 8 but am starting to see signs that they are not going to last the 800km that I usually get so I may look for another shoe next time.

I've bought my last two pairs of shoes from Running Science, they're excellent and know their stuff.
Thoroughly reccommended.

Went into Runnig Science yesterday and was really impressed. The guy was a podiatrist and a runner too and put me on the threadmill and looked at my feet while walking. He said i pronated a fraction, and said that I could use a neutral shoe, but he suggested a more stable shoe for me as I am getting shin splints. Tried on the Glycerin 5s but they seemed to rub on the inside of my heel. Then just compared the new nimbus (which I wasn't going to get), then I tried on Nikes Airs 3 and thought they were the best of the three for me. The guy in the shop said he would have picked them too, he let me have a run on the threadmill with them on too.

Told him I saw their add on CR and he gave me 10% off and bought a pair of X socks with the diff. Awesome......... can't wait to try them out and hopefully goodbye to shin pain!!!!!
