hi all, nearly GC mara time - and need to get a new pair of shoes in order to get them worn in on time. im thinking that there must be a better option than spending $$$ on another pair of asics. unfortunately i dont think thongs would suit me but I remember some some interesting comments somewhere around here re the humble KT26ers and trailrunning. anyone worn them in a mara? i'm certainly not a fast runner - a 3.50 would be good... (then, as a bonus, ill have some race ready glasshouse shoes to trash!)

Teejay:
Out of curosity I purchased a pair and sometimes train in them with no ill affects from that limited use. However you may find the KT26 has gone metric and is now the KT42.
Others with more specefic information will no doubt post. However a shoe should be used because it works for you and some may say the price has little to do with its benefits but the price reflects the 'name' only. I guess the only way to find out is for you to purchase a pair and try running in them.
As I recall there are a couple of very experienced trail runners who wear them with no problems.

Hi teejay, if KT26 's suit your running style and foot then by all means wear them.Runners only get ripped off by multinational companies who get their shoes made in China for peanuts and flog them here at some ridiculous price because we're silly enough to pay what they ask.In the United States all these shoes are so much cheaper than here. You don't wear a particular brand of shoe just because some top runner advertises them on tele or magazine, wear the ones that suit you.

Cheap as chips to experiment with.

the KT is a pretty good shoe. Originally I thought KT stood for Kevin Tiller.
I have run 3 x six foot tracks in them, the GNW 100km and the Bogong to Hotham. And they never change so you know your favorite shoe is not going to be mucked up by a model change. The downside for me is they have leather on them (which I only recently realised) and I have a no leather policy. Now you need to train in them to know if they work for you. The Loco's are pretty good too for the price so if the KT's don't do it try the Locos.

thanks - appreciate the feedback - certainly cant hurt to experiment then for the price! especially given the aforementioned milage... sounds like they'll easily cope with a measly 42.2!!
