What more do you want?
The only thing I am wary of is putting too much personal information into registering so I tend to only put the bare minimum or make it up.

I will just stick to the blog. I do not have time for another spot to crap on about nothing.

One little suggestion though.
Instead of naming the group "Coolrunners of Australia" a better option would be "CoolRunning Australia". Many many people may find it hard to find otherwise.
Just a thought.

Can you recommend a therapist? I can't get enough reassurance through my blog and facebook. Do you know one that will jog along side me during a run and tell me how good/strong I am looking and how I am going to smash that marathon in august...maybe they could also throw in a few comments about how I am swooning the ladies with my red face, sweaty back and blistered toes.
Thanks BCFC, I feel better all ready.

Thanks for the link, which took me to the group page but I couldn't see a link for how to join. Then I joined australia network, and searched within that to find the group. Hope this helps others!

Wow - it was just a joke! What I meant was a CR-name to facebook name glossary would be useful, for those of us who were willing or wanted to be involved. Nothing to get upset about!
In answer to the idea that people who use these things must be a bit dysfunctional, antisocial or whatever, I would say that this is rubbish in the vast majority of cases. Facebook and myspace do have some very real, very useful applications. As an artist, I find there are lots of professional connections and networking opportunities to be found. Lots of now-famous musicians have had success through myspace. Lilly Allen springs to mind, for one.
Lots of businesses, organisations, galleries etc. have these pages and it does translate into real life in all kinds of ways. Recently, I got some printing done for my next exhibition - my printer was on myspace and I got a big discount because of the connection.
Obviously, it's going to work in different ways for different people. Nothing wrong with a handle if that's your thing. In my case, I find it is of benefit to me to be *me* online, because I already have a somewhat public face in the arts industry. Each to their own, I say.

I saw this thread before I headed north for the marathon. I joined up but could not find the "coolrunners". I went back today, found them and have spent some time getting into it.
I noticed one cool runners found an application to put up music and music videos. I have spent most of the night looking at some old classics and putting them on my Facebook. Thanks - you will ahve to join to see who!
Good fun and pretty useful. I have came across people I have not seen or heard from for ages.

At this point, "friend" relationships remain unique to the social networks.
My web social networking is through a common interest and that is running. Cool running is the one for me. What Facebook provides for me is a profile where I can centralise my web presence and that is what I like about it. I am a cocoon inside the cocoon.

It is the savvy I am lacking and the adding of Facebook applications is soooo easy. They say wordpress can do it but I have not found this that intuitive.
If something more open like Cool Running could develop the profile centralisation of Facebook then my account would become another one of my Web 2.0 tools I have signed up for and dumped.
I agree the problem is unless you sign up you have no real idea what I am talking about.
Mind you I do enjoy catching up with old uni and school mates as well as some of the political ones that have developed.
cheers Plu

This Scoble video interview with Irving Wladawsky-Berger covers the issues you discuss about cross platform sharing.
It is called identity management so that a CR identity can be linked with a 2nd Life, Facebook, My Space....identities. Not yet happening but we can only hope.
Here is the interview background info. Raises a whole heap of issues of interest.

It's taken me a while to work it out but it seems to be a good way to keep in touch with friends - I can certainly see the benefit but don't see it replacing blogs or CR, it is a completely different platform so no need to worry ye of little faith

I don't want to seem rude by sending out invites to names that I'm not familiar with in the CR group. So how about this -
most people know me now as andrew lister, and I'm generally a pretty approachable sort of guy. So if you want to say g'day, then all Crs are more than welcome to drop me a notification
That should make it easy for at least 1 of us

You give the nicknames to the ones you know and then send a message to those you are not sure of. Mind you I cannot work out how to show people I am Plu - I come up as Martin.
Once done it comes up like this - not sure if you can see my nicknames

I am in there too - not too hard to work out who I am as the name is the same! Check out the Motion Based application in there. If you have a garmin and want to share your runs it will link with your Motion Based account and put your runs on your page.
Happy for anyone to send a notification if they want to. Muzman and I will be up at the Gold Coast Half Ironman this weekend so if you are up there too say G'Day.
Cheers,
Danny
