Hi guys,

just thinking about getting a pair of the Nike Air Zoom Marathoner racing flats. Just wondering if anybody out there has tried them and can give me your opinion on them before i lay down my money.
I dont run long distance, mainly 5km - 10km races and i also compete in triathlons and i am looking for a new pair of races to start the season. I currently race on the Asics DS racers and have found them very good but they have seen better days.

Thanks for your input.

I know that Ray (ray42k - dummy thats the blog, handle is Eagle) uses them and was wearing them in the SMH Half (dummy- and at GC Mara). From what I can remember he had good things to say about them, and will probably add his own (more relevant and useful no doubt) comments to this thread.

Greg :p

edit: fixed up some innacuracies due to low iq.

I run marathons in the Nike Air Zoom Marathoner.

For many years I wore New Balance but I felt they were making there shows much firmer and I wanted something with just a bit more 'give'. I tried Nike (Bowerman range) and felt they were more to my liking. I then heard about the marathoner and ourchased a pair (they are not that easy to get) and ran the Canberra marathon in them.

I have now run a total of 4 marathons in them with no problems at all. They are light and soft but I find they have enough support so that even in the marathon I have no shoe or feet problems, There maybe other shoes out there just as good but certaininly for me this shoe has no problems and I will not be changing for as long as they make them.

Thanks for your contributions,

Question for Eagle: Do you think they will be suitable for the shorter races such as 5-10km. I am looking for something lightweight that will have some stability, because i suffer with achilles problems sometimes.

As you would know opinions on shoes vary as much as feet. But for me they are soft feeling all round but I also think they have sufficent stability. When I say soft I mean that there is cushioning when the foots hits the ground and it is flexibale between the toe and heel section.

Even with both those characteristics they stil have enough stability for me to run the marathon and have no problems. I have run marathons in other brand racing flats and felt a little sore particulalrly in the calfes the next day or so becuase of lack of support but do not have that problem with the Nikes. As everthing elso is the same I can only conclude that they give better support ? are more stable.

If I have no problems over 42k I cannot see how problem would arise over 5/10k unless you have some unusual problem. Occasional achilles problems may not be caused by the shoe but that is another issue.

Hi 90ZzaA

I have worn the Marathoners and I personally think they are one of the best flats I have worn. They are supportive enough to do longer races and still light enough to race shorter races in. The only mild complaint with them is that I find them a little stiff. I usually pull up a little sore after longer races and sessions in flats, however I rarely do in the Marathoners. However a good pair of flats for me may not be the best for you.

Good luck with the shopping
