Hi all!

I've just started running. Have never really been a runner, but decided to give it a go and hopefully shed some kilos.

I soon realised the importance of getting some decent running shoes, so I did a bit of research and then headed down to Athletes Foot, where I ended up buying a paid of New Balance 1061 shoes, costing $220.

I've had one run in them and it's a really good change for the better compared to the no-name pair I had before.

I was just wondering if anyone else uses this model and what their experience has been. Have I bought the right pair? Are there are reviews available on them?

Cheers! ;)

Just to add a little more info about myself...

I'm a neutral runner with slight roll-out of ankle.

I have a wide foot with a high arch.

I'm also a big guy (over 100kgs) with a height aroung 180cm.

I currently run for 30mins a day 3 times a week (and planning to increase intensity over time!).

Cheers

Hi Jowel,
The issue of the "right" shoe is a difficult one, and is best dealt with consulting a specialist running store. Try a few different recommended models over time, and you'll come to find one which you'll treasure. As you become more experienced, you'll also know what features to look out for to suit your style.
I think that you'll find the NB's fantastic though, especially as you seem to be on the "larger" side (especially compared to me - sorry if I've offended anyone).
Enjoy your running!

Hi Jowel,

Congratulations on taking up running - great choice!

I've been running for a couple of years, and have been through a few pairs of New Balance. Firstly 1221s, currently the 1222 (which I think has been replaced by the 1223 now). I also have a medium rolling out problem, which has been brought under control by the New Balance shoes.

When I was a very inexperienced runner I ran in Nike's, and had quite a few injury issues. I've completed a marathon, a half-marathon and a lot of training without any serious problems since I made the move to New Balance.

Lastly, I would add that I also invested in a decent pair of insoles for more cushioning, for about $50. I can't prove it, but I think it has helped reduce injury and extended the life of the shoes.

Cheers,
Tim
