smiley faces instead of letters/numbers

no matter how I tried to get rid of that damn smiley icon, it came back and ate my eight, and then blew bubbles.
Like I said in my PS, its unwanted persistence displayed my limited education in matters technological. Looks like I’ll need to follow my own advice and repeat the full year of “Icon Control 101”.
Anyone else had trouble displaying numerals with brackets on this forum?
My Post Icon control section is marked "use none".

Try putting a space in. (I haven't tried it - just a suggestion)

When editing the post (not fastreply but a proper edit) you can say - allow emoticons = Yes or No. I think yes is the default - change to no.
