I've found Scott Westcott in bib 22, Andrew Letherby in bib 24, Lee Troop in bib 12 and Anna Thompson in bib F14. Anyone know of others looking to post a Beijing Qualifier?
Unless you know the name the site can't search by nationality unfortunately to see if any other Aussies are running. Berlin Marathon

Berlin This Weekend: Craig Mottram, Rodgers Rop Featured Pacers
Press Release - SCC Running

September 28, 2007

It’s getting so that the pacemakers are as famous as the performers. And when you have Haile Gebrselassie and Gete Wami defending their titles in the real_Berlin Marathon on Sunday, that’s saying something. When news of Sonia O’Sullivan’s impending retirement from international athletics was announced earlier this year, few expected her to pop up in a marathon at the eleventh hour and 59 minutes. But, if she was going to have a last fling at the 42k, this was the one to do. Berlin has the flattest fastest course in the world, as the 2.04.55 world record of Paul Tergat here in 2003 testifies to. But if Sullivan’s name on the start list raised the eyebrows a fraction, the same eyebrows shot up into the scalp when the name of her pacemaker was added to the list. For it’s none other than Craig Mottram, former world bronze medallist at 5000 metres, and multi-Australian record holder.

What’s more, Mottram is competing in the Great North Run 3000 metres in Newcastle, in the north-east of the United Kingdom on Saturday afternoon. And the Berlin Marathon begins at 9am on Sunday. “It’s going to be a bit of  a rush,” said Mottram, by phone from his London base. “I’ve got a 3k road race, go straight to the airport, have to change flights, and get into Berlin at 11 o’clock at night. Then I have to be up early, so it’s not ideal. And I’m flying back to Australia on Monday. But Sonia’s given me a lot of help over the years. This is a way of giving a bit back, and hopefully she’ll continue to help me in future”.

“I wish I was up to taking advantage of a superstar pacemaker,” said O’Sullivan, who herself arrived in Berlin late Thursday evening. The Irishwoman - who also has Aussie nationality after marriage to Nic Bideau, who coaches both her and Mottram - admits that her marathon career didn’t quite measure up to her high expectations. A twice world cross champion on the same weekend in 1998, a world gold in 1995, and an Olympic silver medal in 2000, both at 5000 metres, she has run no faster than a 2.29.01 in London 2005. And at 37, does not expect to be anywhere near that on Sunday.

Bideau had said earlier in the week, he thought she would do between 2.35 and 2.45 in Berlin. To which O’Sullivan responded, “If I do 2.35, I’ll be overjoyed.

I ran Dublin (Marathon) in 2000, after Sydney, without any long distance preparation, and did 2.35. So after training hard for New York in 2002, I expected to do much better, and in fact, I only did 2.32. So, it didn’t add up. I expected to be ten minutes faster. I never announced my retirement this year, it was sort of done for me. I went to the Great Irish Run in April, preparing to say it would be the last time I ran seriously in Ireland, and I got injured, and didn’t do well, so sort of forgot the retirement ‘thing’. But it got announced for me. I intended to come here two years ago, but got injured again. So I’m just here ‘collecting’ things I didn’t do during my career. This is one of the famous courses, that’s why I’m running.

“If anything, Craig is looking forward to it more than me. It was mostly his idea (to pace to 30k). We train together all the time, and we ran the Great North Run together last year, in 75 minutes, which was a half decent time. So he said he’d do the same thing for me here. He’s really excited. He’s never been in a major marathon field, and I think he wants to see what it’s like”.

Mottram picked up a hamstring injury two weeks before the recent World Championships, and although it was healed before Osaka, the lost training resulted in a 13th place in the 5000 metres for the Aussie, who had won bronze at the same distance in Helsinki two years ago. But after Beijing, he says he’ll consider running a marathon properly. “I’m doing the 5000 metres in Beijing, I’ve got some unfinished business there. But between Beijing and London, I’ll try a marathon, and if it works out, I may run the marathon in London 2012”.

Mottram isn’t the only famous name on the list of pacemakers in Berlin. One of the men taking Gebrselassie through 30 kilometres is Rodgers Rop of Kenya, another ‘superstar,’ by dint of his victories in the Boston and New York marathons in 2002. He also won Hamburg earlier this year. But unlike Mottram, who is helping out a pal, pacing Berlin is a means to two ends for Rop. “I’m doing my preparation for New York (November 4), so this fits in well. I want to come here (to race) next year, so I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at the course. But it’s my ambition to win New York again first, and I think I’m capable of doing that”.

oh yeah, finaly.
when I said few months ago in the heated discussion on this forum, that Buster shoukld get seriious in halfmarathon and go for marathon as well, I was ridiculed and the argument used were he is too tall, he is too heavy etc etc, well it look like Buster was not reading that discussion so he does not know he is no good for marathon.

appart for Buster and Sonia, what is much more interesting in this year Berlin marathon is Lee Troop and his race strategy and the final result.
As he said in the interview published in teh local Geelong paper few weeks ago, he is going for broke, he is not going to pace tyo get safely 2:14 qualifier, but he is going to take the risk and run flat out targetting australian record.

So lets get behind him, fingers crossed, wishing You all the best, go Troopy go

Lets hope for good weather for the race.
I can't see Mottram running the Marathon at the London Olympics. I think he will be concentrating on the track races at that stage.
Troop, Westcott and Letherby will hopefully have fast races. Get them all under the qualifier in the same race. And Anna Thompson as well.

The race start is at 5pm AEST. But click on the link in my first post. If it comes up in German then click the union jack flag in the top right hand corner and you will get the english version.

Tah "Flake"

I must have buggered up somewhere, because i looked up the time difference this morning, betwixt here and Berlin, and i figured the race was being run at 10.45am AEST.

I wonder if SBS is going to cover it, or maybe even a sport radio station ?
My interest in the race is purely from supporting Troopy.

Dave

Ps. I like the "quarantined" tag you have.
The EI is running rampant thru the country, and is only a matter of time before all horses in all states have it, and racing in it's entirety is shut down.
1-10 there is no Melb spring carnival

I miss watching the horses do trackwork as I pass the track everyday going to work. Anyway back to the race.

The weather looks very promising. Light south to southwest wind, with hardly any precipitation and temperatures between 15-17 degrees Celsius. At the moment we have temperatures of 14 degrees Clesius. The humidity is at around 78 %. Wind is between 0,6 and 1,3 metres per second.

The first runners passed the first kilometre in 2:57 minutes. Among the group of five pace makers is also Ethiopian Top-runner Haile Gebrselassie.

Haile passed with his pace makers the 5 k in 14:43 minutes

The above is all off the live ticker on the main page.

Flake

I've been on the ticker page since they started, and are following results/splits.
One can if they wanted, watch it live, but there is a fee to receive the live feed.

We just have to be content with the update of the splits i'm afraid.

Half way in 62.28 with pacemakers still intact. This is looking good so far...

My guess is Troopy will have a very tough last 5 km .....tho its an impressive first half...

30k in 1.28.54; if my calculations are correct that's only a cat's whisker over 2.05 pace. These guys have been known to negative split, and with a conservative 62.29 to kick things off ( :) ), that's not out of the question. No pacers left now though. They finished at the 30k....and apparently the pace increased in the 31st k, which he covered alone in 2.56. Damn pacers must've been slowing him down!  :p

33k in 1.37.33, which my calculations work out to now be under 2.05 pace. Apparently he ran a 2.46 33rd k!

This came up on the home page for me. Latest is 35k in 1.43.38, which is back over 2.05 pace.

...and just in 36km in 1.46.33 which if I'm not mistaken, is back under 2.05 pace. We're gonna be in for an interesting finish!

Is it 2.12 that Troopy and Westcott have to beat to qualify for Beijing?

It's looking that Geelong's big win yesterday has certainly helped!

Wow, what a run. I've got to rush off now, but I'll do so with a smile on my face because of Geb's great run, and my fingers crossed for Troopy. His pace slipped from halfway to 35, but that doesn't tell the whole story - I hope he can keep it together for a sub 2.10!!!!!!!!!

Anna Thompson was in the leading division until the 20K mark, but doesn't figure in the final results, so she must have pulled out ?

I did some quick maths on Geb's run:

5k 14:44 (2:57 pace)
10k 14:43 (2:57)
15k 14:49 (2:58)
20k 14:54 (2:59)
25k 14:55 (2:59)
30k 14:51 (2:58)
35k 14:42 (2:56)
40k 14:30 (2:54)
42.2k 6:18 (2:52)

Even pacing until he pulled the trigger once he passed 30k mark....

Well done to Geb, a champion on and off the track/road.

Coolrunner Lee Troop, got Olympic qualifier out the way, congratulations.

BTW I hope Lee wore some coolrunning gear, also I wonder if he handed out any flyers for Colac 6 day:unknw:

Well Done Troopy...2:10 - huge run and a 3rd Olympics. Surely worth missing that Cats Premiership. What a race to place 5th in, bit a real history there.

Andrew Letherby also ran 2:24. No splits on the site though so I can't see where he started to fall behind.
And no time for Anna Thompson, but she was in the top 10 at the 20k mark.
