Make sure you wear spikes. You will need them to grip the top of the water jump, and also to grip on the other barriers (if you aren't hurdling them) because they get wet and slippery too. It's always best if you can hurdle them, you will go faster.
Also, don't wear socks. When you land in the water they get heavy and uncomfortable.
When approaching any barrier, particularly the water jump, be assertive. A timid approach means you lose momentum.
It will be tough to back up straight away from an 800m to a steeple with no recovery time. I suspect one or other race will sufferfor it. Are you doing the high steeple (91.4) or the low (76.2)?

Good luck getting the QLD state record love2run, and finny have a go at steeple, it's not always the fastest flat runners that win. You will never know if you don't have a go.

My Height Jump Bp Is 1m 10 So It Would Be A Challange To Hurdle 92cm.

I agree totaly, my training partner is a 9:20 3k runner and is 15 as well, he has only done 2k steeple twice and on friday night he did a national qualifier easily and ran 6:25. Most people do around 30 seconds slower at 2k steeple than they can do 2k on the flat in. On the same night another girl (15) in my squad who is a 11 minute 3k runner did 7:30 for 2k steeple with another national qualifier. Her good run comes from her core strength and not flat leg speed, this girl has a six pack most guys would be proud of, sure you need to be an ok flat runner but an average flat runner with great core strength will blitz steeple.

The state record you state I belive it is an old record? And if it is it has been there from 1992/3, could someone clarify this for me.
Let us know how you go.
Cheers,

Runners need great core strength for steeple, being able to hurdle well is a plus but not essential as you are allowed to stand on the barriers when tired. In my opinion steeple has many aspects that can make it an event that separates the men from the boys. Well done you guys on giving it a go, it is truly a tough event.
to right about needing great core strength the amount of crunches/situps over the last year ive done is insane. what i find helps with the hurdling the barriers i take my hurdle down to the oval and continuously jump over it for 8 minutes.

Some great runners in those times, I have had the pleasure to have run against all these guys at some stage, mainly me being beaten by them but can say I have taken the scalp of David Hill and have been on a winning relay team with him some years ago.
Good luck, train hard and let us know your results.

Yes Finny you can, but don’t jump, just step down, why be in the air when you could be running. The only time you jump is on the water trap, and this is so you don’t land in the deep part of the water. The farther out you get the shallower it is. The best way is to LEAP out across the water and one foot may get wet and the other steps out dry. Really good steeple chaser keep both feet dry for most of the race they Leap so far. And the world record holder actually hurdles the entire water trap without hitting water or touching the barrier
So as you approach a dry barrier just step up with one foot and step down with the other. I hurdle the first 3 laps but when i get tired it gets risky in case i clip one and fall so i just step on them for the last lap or so.
This website has some good info on steeple technique

Still sounds like you are sitting on the fence finny. One of my coach’s favorite sayings is "don’t think just run".
You seem to ponder allot, just get in and have a go. Why let what others do or don't do at states determine your fate?
You are master of your OWN destiny

You dont need to go with your school for Australian Youth Titles Finny, you just do a race anywhere that has electronic timing, get the qualifier and enter yourself.
