Carmen, there are just too many lines to reply to your question, so I won't as a gentleman, but so many lines...

However, rather than paint it on, show your true allegiance, and have the boxing kangaroo tattooed on your bum :D

Now, do I need to do a list of Aussies/Pommies for this run? (Irishmen automatically adopted as Aussies)
Lines are good Scurry, I'm sure you'd just be trying to make a joke same as me  :)

Tattooed? Hmmm...I'm not so good with needles I'm afraid, nor am I that loyal to this nation.  Am aussie though, at least was born here.  And will attempt painting a boxing kanga somewhere on my person for Saturday, probably arm.  The bum is just physicallly impossible.

Ine, that makes me feel sick just thinking about eating lamb after a big run.  :) What happened to the trademark watermelon?

Would be nice to catch up again Ine. Is Byron running or cycling?

I reckon a lamb sandwhich about 30mins after the run would go down like a treat...I haven't seen any lambs in the National Park though... :)

Spud's in, now Whippet Gal has her pacer, thank god, now I can relax right at the back of the Conga line.

An injury may cause me to be a late drop out. I've done something weird... will continue popping anti-inflams and hope for the best.

I've already got my Aussie flag tattoo ready, so I have to be there.

Hope your injury heals up quickly Whippet Gal and you can get out there on Saturday.

I had better find something Aussie on the way home tonight or I will look completely out of place during the run.

my somewhat swollen and lumpy ankles would advise against it, but I think I should perform my patriotic duty and join in tomorrow's fun. Anyone heading out from the east able to help with a lift?

You can have one of mine scurry. I also have a large blow up Australia pointing finger thingy and a Aussie beach ball that we managed to some how not get confiscated at the cricket. I will bring them along for splashing around in the pool afterwards.

Excellent, if we had time we could have had Australia v England cricket game before the run, but that's just being silly. See everyone there tomorrow.

Ok - I wait until now to decide and Rod stopped checking yesterday - oh well

As I have actually trained for three weeks now I feel fitter but shattered

I am looking at about 4 hours so am really looking at a 21 k plus 4 hour option and have toyed with the idea of finishing down the road in case the feet give out and I can lie in front of a car and get put out of my misery ( or get a lift)

at 4 hours I should be liquid sufficient - I even suspect I might try to work out 21 ks or so without Euroka - or go there first - or hmmm - perhaps just do 21 k up and down the hill to the creek - hmmm ok - I won't be doing that !!

I guess I'll work out a map and give someone a copy so Rod knows what I hope to be doing

So - unless I do myself a mischief cavorting about the stage at Werrington tonight - I will be there !!!

Oh - and I suppose as a resident status Pom since 1974 you can put me in between the two lists. I could umpire that match Scurry as my eyesight is bad enough.

all the best

David

Pretty sure injury won't hold me back, but I'm warning you all that if it all goes pear shaped, someone may have to go get a golf buggy to drive me outta there.

And Carmen - I am hoping for a tattoo tan. What better way to show my true Aussie-ness than getting a melanoma with a flag shape in the middle?

I love a sunburnt country,
And a peeling nose,
My freckles and my cancers,
From head down to my toes.

True, too true.  Thing is, once the tattoo is gone and the tan mark is left, others may not know that the mark is a result of your patriotism.  They could just suspect you are suffering some form of leprosy or a Michael-Jackson-esqu skin disorder.

My son is planning on wearing tattoos on the day - one on each cheek, one on each arm and one on each leg.  When I see him again after Australia day he is going to look like a little spotted dog!

Nice poem by the way.

umm - won't the shape just be a rectangle once all the tattoo is gone?

but at least no one has suggested maps - including Tasmania

I hope to go to Nepean Lookout - back via the cycleway  - turn down the Eoroka Road and up a tiny way to the left and take the footpath down to the Causeway - probably 26-27k and hopefully back by midday.

see you all at some point ( probably at 7am and perhaps between Nepean Lookout and Bennet's Ridge Track)

What a wonderful day and wonderful company. Happy Australia Day everyone.

There was an plenty of Australian flags, tattoo's and clothing as we prepared for the Australia Day Fatathon by singing the National Anthem.

Then we all headed out for various distances into the Blue Mountains National Park. What could be more Australian than that?

It was a beautiful day and a great trail with plenty of running as the course was fairly flat.Although there were a few good size hills towards the end .We finished with a great soak in the creek and some time in the sun.

Thanks to Hornet and Scurry for organising a great day the water drop was put in a perfect location and with plenty of cool drinks. The pink ribbons were very reassuring.

Yep, totally agree Bluebel. It truly was a fantastic morning. As I was running in the bush, I thought to myself that life doesn't get any better than this - running on Australia Day with a great bunch of people, pristine Aussie wilderness with fabulous views and a cool refreshing dip at the causeway finish. And didn't the watermelon go down well.

Loved that downhill run along Bennetts Ridge Track, was ticking over 4:30 min/kms. Typically for me, I was navigationally challenged at the Euroka camping ground, wandered around and then took the road option, missing the esky drop that I heard later was at the head of the track. As such, I was very low on water in the camelbak. Ran to the Tunnel View Lookout, but then bearing in mind a previous bad experience running out of water, turned around and headed for home. Ended up doing 38km in 4:04, and was quite pleased with that.

Many thanks Rod and Scurry for organising this run. And the rendition of the National Anthem at the start was indeed a beautiful moment

Two esky's were left at the Causeway (the end), upon returning to pick them up, one was gone. It was the one with the drinks, I have the one that had the watermelon.

Did anyone from the group today happen to pick up the esky? Please let me know ASAP as it belongs to Innes.

Thanks for organising Rod and Scurry, your aid stations were most welcome.
Ran most of the way with Innes who pulled me along nicely, watch out 6FT! Cheers mate.
The views at Tunnel and Portal Lookouts were as awesome as ever.

Thanks Rod and Scurry for the run, from the anthem to the esky at the causeway I had a great time running solo from about 6k to the 32k finish in a fantastic training environment. Thanks for the refreshments also!

Thanks everyone for coming out and sharing a great Australia Day.  28 rolled up for the day, which was a great turn out.  Loved the national anthem and all the proud Aussies (and English/French/Irish etc) that got into the spirit of the morning.

This is one course I always rave about and love sharing it with other runners.  Not as steep and nasty as some courses, but you can get in a great work out on the ups/downs.  Always love the run from Oaks back to Bennetts - start to think I am a decent runner until reality sets in.  Plenty of good tune up runs out there for Megalong and 6 foot.  Just have to convince Michel to race 6 foot to see what time he can put toghether.

Everyone ran a variety of distances to suit.  Times below:

Sorry for some missing the second aid spot.  I was originally going to put it at the Bennetts ridge entry to Euroka, but decided on moving it over to the 'billy goat' trailhead in Darug campground.  It can get tricky in Euroka, so will make sure that is better posted for next time.

Many thanks to Scurry, Vstar and Innes for helping me put this together.  Plenty to do on these types of runs when you are trying to put out aid and can not do it by yourself and still run the course.  I will definitely keep this one on the fatass schedule and tune it up for next year.

I had an absolute ball out there yesterday. Thanks so much to Rod and Scurry for organising the day and the drinks. Much appreciated. Good to see the numbers have grown quite a lot since last year when we hit Anderson's Trail. I really cant think of a better way to bring in Australia Day than with a great bunch of people on a great trail in one of the nicest places I know.

Not sure what time RA and I come in at. We only done 30km, thats all I had to do on my program (well it was 20 km but negotiated up to 30km). My garmin went funny out there and some really wierd stuff come up not the screen so I ended up just running for how I felt.

My legs feel absolutely awesome today, no tiredness at all. Only in my shoulders from carrying my pack, so need to get more used to that.

Thanks again to everyone and it was great meeting up with new CR's.

Cheers
Becky...

Rod, Scurry, Vstar and Innes thanks for all your work on this one. It was such a great way to start Australia Day, and I know that if it wasn't on I probably would have bludged the morning away with a sleep-in instead!

Even though I ended up running on my own, it was good to know there were other people out there doing the same thing, and the cold water along the way was very much appreciated. Thought I was going to have to pull the pin after the first hour, as my injured rib-area muscles were not being cooperative, but it settled down to a dull ache so I thought the 33k option would be the go. It's a good route and one I'll be adding to my list of long runs to do.

There were two eskys at the causeway when I finished, so the missing one disappeared after about 10.20am or so.

Thanks again... Now I just have to try and scrape the Aussie flag tattoos off my arms.

I have to agree with everyones sentiments that it was a great way to start the day
and a run I will definately be making a regular for long training runs.
felt pretty good out there and had a strong run, was great running with Spud for most of the
day and definately kept me moving along.

Where is Brick??

I am almost worried !!

No worries about the esky, I have quite a collection and my wife will be happy
that 1 at least has been taken.

Megalong Mega next weekend, looking forward to it.

Brick finished with vstar and myself. I think he was accidentally left off the finishers list. We talked him into doing the Full Monty.

Just wanted to add my thanks to all who had a hand in organising yesterdays run. Like so many have already said, it was a top run, with a great bunch of people. The aid stations were more than adequately stocked. Thanks Rod etc... for all of your hard work in setting up and packing up, much appreciated! The National Anthem was a nice touch too.

Thanks to vstar and for keeping me company just about all of the way and Brick from Eureka (Bandanna!) oops sorry.. Euroka.

I had a funny day out yesterday. I started off right at the back of the field, had a really ordinary first half. I was taking little walk breaks after 30mins thinking it would be a long day out. My legs weren't quite recovered from the 3 big hill sessions I had in the last 7 days. About half way when I took on some food at the aid station I had my first wind of the day and was able to finish the second half strongly. Unfortunately I had to run the whole thing on my own until I caught Rod & Moh at Mt Portal and we finished together. I have no soreness at all in the legs today which is great. The post run dip, watermelon and debrief with fellow runners was great and topped off a great Australia Day. Too bad I didn't apply any sunscreen.

Many thanks to those who organised the Fatathon yesterday - it was a great spot and a beautiful day to get outside and run.  And great to chat with such happy, friendly CR's!

I went for a green and gold theme and was glad to see others dressed/tattooed up.  I managed 33kms and as the route was quite gentle it meant there wasn't much walking.  My legs were very sore at the end, but some time spent in the Nepean Recovery Pool felt wonderful and helped to recover the legs somewhat.  That and the obligatory post long run nap!

I am still very hungry almost the whole time I run though; do others get that?  At least this time I had food to eat so was able to stem the hunger pains a bit.

My Australia Day finished with the evening performance of Bizet's Carmen at the Sydney Opera House so I have to all in all it was a bloody great Australia Day!

Two esky's were left at the Causeway (the end), upon returning to pick them up, one was gone. It was the one with the drinks, I have the one that had the watermelon.

Did anyone from the group today happen to pick up the esky? Please let me know ASAP as it belongs to Innes.
Both eskies were still there when we left the causeway and we were last to leave.  I take it the esky has not been found?  Most likely it has gone the way of the Australia Day Bogan; there were more than enough flag waving P platers in the park who fit the bill.  They probably saw the bottles of coke in the esky and thought ''Score!" I'm actually surprised they took the esky as well, but I suppose they needed something to carry their stolen coke in...

Really Scurry, we all know running can upset ones bowels, but there's no need to share.

What an excellent morning out for Australia Day!  Good to see so many CRs turn out to support the run, and more importantly, I was very glad that people other than myself decided to run in their Australian Flag boxers  :D

Echo everyone's comments, the run was brilliantly organised - from the maps and signon sheet to the Aid stations (dont think I've ever felt so glad to see an aid station like that one at Euroka!) and those pink ribbons! Great job once again to Rod, Scurry, Vstar and others.

Rod, definitely a great trail to run on and mostly runnable apart from the "mini Mini-mini" at the Portal..:D I'll be up there to run again for sure   Sure beats running with leeches!

And Carmen - I was starving from about that second aid station...on the way back after the run we HAD to stop at Maccas, and I can safely say the first burger went down without touching the sides!

Hope to see you all out again at Megalong Mega.

Cheers
moh

Thanks to Rod and Scurry for organising - I finished with the biggest grin on my face, I had such a good day out.

I have a couple of photo's of the day, will post when I figure out how to - or pm me and I will email them.

btw did anyone go to the glenbrook aussie day celebrations after - dang those steak sangers were good!

Hi Guy's/Girls,

As was said I finished with GoGirl and vstar.
I stopped to take a stone out of my shoe coming down to the second lookout so got about 200 meters behind Innes and spud so decided to catch them coming up the hill big mistake got stomach cramps and need to walk.
That happened every time I tried to run for a while.
Got back to the aid station and met up with David so walked up the hill with him with my guts feeling crap.
Had anothe run from the top of the hill and just before the next turn of met up with Jan he told me I was abou 400 metrs back from Innes/spud but need to walk again another stone in my shoe and Malcolm caught me we ran together for a while but guts started again so siad by and walked again.
Lots of people asked if I was OK but was fine in the bush beautiful day so no problems.

Gogirls and vstar caught me up coming into the camp ground so walked and jogged with them the rest fo the way.

A bit of a slow day for me maybe the new gels maybe no sleep maybe maybe maybe.
Who cares I had a fun day talked to lots of poeple and had fun in the mountains.

Thanks to Rod/Scurry/Innes for the organisation a great run with nice people will do this one again for sure.

See some at Megalong Mega next weekend.

Brick
