Did anybody try these shoes? Was looking for a new pair of shoes this weekend, and was recommended them. They were supposed to be perfect for my very slightly overpronating, narrow and low-arched feet... Unfortunately no size 13 in stock so will have to wait a week until they get them.

Back home I tried to find some more info on them, but so far found very little that was useful. So I was wondering if there is anybody who has already given them a try. What do you think? Are they worth the money? And if you decided against them, what was the shoe of your choice?

Any info is more than welcome!

Thanks, Erik

Erik,

What sort of info are you after?

Another link to try would be www.saucony.co.uk

Cheers

Hi Willo 75,
Thanks for the UK link. Didn't think of that... ;)
Indeed has a lot more technical info, but I was mainly curious about people's personal experience with them, whether they liked them and other (obviously very subjective) first impressions.
According to Saucony this is "one of the most comfortable, cushioned, responsive running shoes on the market today."
So the shoe seems to claim a lot, and especially the build-in airco sounds a bit too good to be true...
It is just that if shoe comes with its own set of launch parties that I get a bit sceptical. Would be very curious to read some reviews, but I guess it is maybe just a bit too early for that.

Erik,

I'm not sure if you're looking for info on that shoe or Saucony in general - I wear Saucony Hurricane's - I love them. In my third pair now and the only issue I've had with them, is the lack of people stocking them - thanks to this website - Found them at DFO - I'm in Melbourne, but the person who pointed me in the right direction saw them at Homebush... And cheaper!

Goodluck.

Got a phone call today that the Saucony Paramount shoes in size 13 had arrived, so went to have a look at them straight after work. First impression was that they don't feel like they have a huge amount of cushioning. Apparently that is because of the ProGrid, which is supposed to absorb the impact like a tennis racket. They fitted however pretty well as they are not too wide and hug the foot nicely. Finally, they are nice and light, but pretty ugly looking...

Decided to buy them and took them for a run straight away. First impressions: They feel very responsive (probably because the sole isn't that squishy). Don't know about the temperature regulating membrane, but at least ventilation seems pretty good and my feet certainly didn't get too hot (although I rarely have any problems with that). Although I don't think it is all because of the shoes, but I took about 4 minutes of my standard 20k round, while my average hr was 5 to 10 bpm lower than normal. Obviously very happy about that, although like I said before, the cool evening may have had a much bigger effect :)

So on the whole, while they do require some getting used to and they may not appeal to everybody, I am pretty happy with them so far. Lets see how they are going to hold up.

Postman - you may want ot try a post on the US coolrunning boards to get some feedback, as Saucony's are a lot more popular over there than in Aus. The big brands here seem to be Asics and Brooks, with a few people going for Nike and Adidas.

After a PM from Gadfly asking for some info on how I went with these Saucony's, I thought my reply might also be of interest to any one else, so I post it here as well:

"In the beginning I really liked the feel of Saucony's, especially how light and responsive they were. They really made me feel quite fast... However, from the beginning I was worried that they might not have enough cushioning (am 1.95 and 81 kg). The progrid system really feels much firmer than some form of foam or gel. After a while I started to get some problems with my knees and I blamed my shoes. However, I also increased my mileage as I was training for the 6ft track marathon... However, while I always had pretty much neutral feet (at least that was what I was always told), I think I have also started to pronate more recently (is that possible?). The Paramounts really don't seem to have any pronation control.

I am now running on Brooks Trance and am very happy with them. Certainly a bit heavier and clunkier but have run about 500 kms in them over the last couple of months and they feel great and my knees are holding up well. On the whole I think the Paramounts may be great for lighter runners, or maybe as a second pair of shoes for races (instead of proper racing flats)."

Thanks go to Postman for answering my PM - while OS.

I went for a run in them on Sat and unfortunately they weren't for me. I was finding my feet didn't feel quite right. Couldn't put my finger (or toe) on it, but then it dawned on me......my feet were actually numb! My shoes were supporting my pronation (still there a little even with orthotics), but pushing me outwards onto the outer side of my foot (right was worst). I wasn't actually getting the whole ball of my foot down and not getting the push off from my big toe. And then the shin splints started.......so...I stopped and walked the rest of the way.

I took them back to the shop and they were happy to find me another pair of shoes.......came out with Brooks Infiniti which survived the run test today! A pity as the Saucony were really comfy when walking....just not running!

One of the girls working in the store had a pair on and says they are the best ones in the shop for her........ every foot is different ;)
