I was delighted with my 6 reps off a 90 second recovery last week (3:04/3:03/3:03/3:07/3:06/3:01) but to put that into perspective The Saint (Ben St Lawrence) up at the sharp end was doing sub 2:40's!

Ralph Doubell won the 68 Mexico Olympic 800 in 1:44.3 and equalled Peter Snell's world record. Don't know what he did for 1K, although Snell's world record in 1965 was 2:16.7 so it could have been around 2:16

Wow, at 52 yo , and to think that people roll their eyes when I say I did alternate 3min/4min k's (total 10) at age 27.
My fastest km at the end of what was, until then, an easy 7km was 2:39.
The next day I entered the 800m on track (with road shoes) went through in 57 and died to 2:01, so I probably may have been able to do a 2:33 ish

I believe my fastest 1,2 and 3km is in that event. I know not acertified course.
Track, about 3:05 running, 4:10 racewalking a long, long, long before I have this huge pillow for a belly.

Never done a 1k TT, and never raced track (since school), and my fastest rep in an interval session has been 3.14. Now that the question's been raised, I'd love to go out and just belt it for one single rep without the worry of having to drag your a#se back over a half dozen more. would be interesting ...

Though on a good day I recon Benni could give that a shake, especially if Tiger paced him for the first 150.

And 10km racing being good for marathons, therefore good 1km reps = good marathons.

I don't tend to ever run 1k time trials, rarely run intervals and don't run on a track - so I am not the ideal candidate for a super quick 1k time.
Still, I'd like to run sub 3min some time. Just to say I've done it.

Get Action prior to measure 1km mark and certify "course".
I am sure we would run really, really fast and over an acurate "course".
Might even live to tell the tale.

This year, if the markers were correct, the first km of the Puffing Billy race, down a very steep hill, I ran 3.05. The next km was a little slower (3.51), - there was an uphill in that one.

For him it was slower than his interval pace. For me? my eyes were bulging after 750 metres. I hung on but blew up badly with about 75metres to go, and went through in about 3.05. He was hardly puffing and I was yacking on my knees.
I'd never get near that time now.

Only ever did a couple of 1k time trials (track), best of 2.42.....my god that hurt !
best track session of ks was a 5x1k session once in 2.52 - 2.54 range, on a 2 min rec. Looking back now through my diary to find these stats (from 97/98)......I'm certain it must have been someone else doing them ! I can in no way see any link between the runner I am now, to the person doing that training.

I've never run a timed 1K. From my best 800, mile and 1500, I would have done around 2:45-2:50.
Now, I would be doing well to get near 3:30

Currently I think I could do no better than one minute slower. 3:33. That is also my marathon PB pace. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

these days (i.e. the last 7 years) I have hit about 3.34 in 1k reps (running) for sure...I ran a 1500 in 5min flat at state champs 9/3/2003 and that equates to a 3.20 per km...see http://www.geocities...9/runtrack.html
I also ran some 800's in 2.23 about that time so although 200m short that is about 2.59 pace so i reckon around 3.10 might be possible for me these days...If I had a 4-8 weeks of intense (3-5 times a week minimum) track work behind me...lately I ve been getting to the track once every week or three if I'm lucky...
might have to get down the track and try and work on getting under 3.30 again just for the heck of it...maybe do 3.25 followed by 4.25 and then try do 3.50's or better for the rest of the reps...
hahaha

Not sure about the Prowess! haha i haven't raced track since 2002. Will be running my first race hopefully in the Syd track classic on the 12th of Jan in the 1500 if they give me a start?! If not then i spose the state 5km champs in late Jan? Was injured for 3 months so its good to finally be back at it!!

New PB for me at 3.22. However couldnt match it with the absolutely "smokin" Prof, who turned in a scintilating 3.18. PB by heaps!
Solid 3.04 from Fats. Same with "just cant seem to break 3min" Ross.
Action: Obviously keeping himself injury free for MDS. LukeSkyrunner just rolling around as well, me thinks.

I thinks it was chasing Langswm (not that we're competitive!) down the finishing chute that got me there! (he did have one of his eight hour lunches yesterday!) I knew one of two things was going to happen, either I'd beat him to the line, or throw up on him trying. Nearly did both!
Prof
PS - Nothing wrong with a 3.22 mate, fastest Ive seen you move too! Well done!

What was a "secret society" run. Now it is in the open. Would of been interesting to add that to Colin's Series.
BTW I have done thousands of kilometres there. In my youth that is one of the locations I did my race walking training.

Nope no secret society around here (well if there is it must be a secret!) In fact, I can vouch for Thursday mornings back to at least 2004
I thought about Cols Summer Series, but drinking beers at 7am does get a little tough....well on weekdays at least!

I'm looking forward to getting back into reps again. After Forster I can definitely do with some speed work!
I like to start a bit earlier though (so does Monte) as my regular day starts at 6:30.
