It could depend on kids' sport, though.

Any chance of an official 6am start? I have more chance of achieving royal assent if I can arrive home an hour earlier.
I realise sunrise is 6:46am and so start photo would likely be crap-ola. It would be good to be in the photo.
In any case, being a Fatass I think I (and hopefully bushbaybee if I can cajole) would be an early starter.

Closer to the day I will let majority rule on the preferred start time however at this stage I will keep it at 7am.
I agree that the start photo is important
Remember it is a fat ass, so you can do what you want.

I have just been admiring the great photos taken last year!
I will be a tentative starter for 30km, as it is the weekend after my first 50km run at TNF 100.
I think the timing fits in well though, for keeping up the training for Gold Coast.

I should be up for this one (30k only), will just depend on logistics, i.e., whether I can con some poor fool to help me get my car to palm beach and then get me to the start line on the day.
I've done a couple of half marathons in the past and have signed myself up for the Hunter Valley Marathon this year and am starting to doubt myself a little, so this should be a good confidence builder. I've done all my long runs on my own, so I'm having a case of 'if no one was there to see me, how do I know if I really ran it?'
Typical first timer marathon doubts I'm sure.
I would have been doing my weekly long run at this exact time anyway, so being a local I really should join in.
I am obvioulsy a Fatass newbie too. I've read the info, what time should we be arriving (to sign away and take responsibility of our own welfare should we cark-it on the way) for a 7am start?
Cheers!

Unfortunately I won't be making it for this run - it's my older son's 3rd birthday on the day, and I've been told I have to help entertain a number of small children....think I'd rather run the 60k.
You should feel free to join the start of the run and turn around whenever you've had enough, ie you could do a 15k out and back, or run 30k out and catch a bus (eg. L90) back to somewhere near the start - that's the beauty of Fatass runs.
From my experience, make sure you turn up at the start line with enough time to warm up, introduce yourself to a few people and shake hands, and sign the waiver - 5 minutes should do it (just kidding)!
By the way I live near Narrabeen Lake and often train around there - feel free to PM me to catch up for the odd training run (as long as it's not too fast!).
Cheers.

Ahh another Narrabeen local! Then I have a question for you if I may.
This is totally off topic for this thread, hope I don't get in trouble
Hubby isn't going to be too pleased with more running paraphernalia hanging round the place though

I also liked Chook's idea of the L90 as it stops not far from my place, although fellow comuters may not appreciate a body with 30K's worth of sweat on it joining along for the ride.
Anyway I'll work something out so I should be good to go.

Anyone know how often the buses go from Palm beach back to Manly? Also, wheres a good place to leave a car in Manly thats not restricted parking?
Hope to make this one and see you all there.

Go to Transport Info Line and search on L90. They go every 20 mins but itdoesn't go directly to Manly, so you need to change at Dee Why or Brookvale,

The options are either to park up the hill towards Nth Head or on the course at Queenscliff. If the second option is taken, you can walk to the start (about 1.5k) with warm clothes etc. On the way back you can drop of your gear back into your car. This is what Sportsman did last year.

Running the other way, from Jamieson Park to the beginning of Bilarong Reserve is ~3km and then it's a further 1km until you get to Deep Creek.
Hope this is useful.

Is there someone out there willing to run at my pace (6.30/km) who knows the course? If not, I'll do Smithfield instead...

Maybe the 30k. I may even run it by myself later in the year and see if I can break 6 hours - we'll see how we go. I may play chief crew. for the day and give a few people a lift etc.

Deferring to the infinite wisdom of my unofficial "coach" I will also be backing up and doing the 10km at Smiffo the next day
#45

if not I might start further north like Collaroy and finish at Manly - or not - that's the beauty of fat ass isn't it.
or alternatively start at Palm Beach - or .......
but it will depend upon the weekend before anyway
but the 30k field looks extremely pulchritudinous - should be a great start photo

Is anyone likely to be passing a railway station on the way to the start please who wouldn't mind picking up a sleepy looking hobo with a battered straw hat? And if so which station and what approximate time? I would be in the Penrith to North Shore line I suppose.
all the best David
