Thanks for adding me to the Ironman list by the way. I was deliberating and the next minute you know my name is on the list courtesy of you.
This one is on Nihao, Nihao's hubby and my to do list. Wildthing and Helmet might be in as well.
We should be there. Hoping to find the bike easier than the half.
Does anyone know if there any cut offs ??
Also for the first time on sunday afternoon I had a practice at using cleats. I can now get both feet in !! Hooray. I seem to be able to get my left foot out only when heading downhill, with the wind is north west, the planets fully aligned. It seemed that doesn't happen very often. My right foot can only come out when I am fully stationary and even then it is a battle. Loads more practice needed.
Relieved to say I didn't fall off but when an elderly fellow with a prosthetic leg started giving me tips on how to cleat in and out I knew I must have looked pretty ordinary. However I was restrained enough to NOT ask him if the leg was anything to do with a biking incident.

Hi there runitloveit!
I was not going to enter this event due to the price of entry
I have had a change of heart and with some fast talking to the boss, i'm IN for the Long Course.
Also, catching up with very good friends will be a bonus

Aunty Karin glad to hear you have had a change of heart and looking forward to seeing you in action for the first time as well as meeting the other CR's who are doing this event. Should be good fun. I only hope I have improved since PM back in November. I don't want the motorcyle following me again on the bike sector asking me if I am cramping

Will - unlike you this IS the big dance for me! I've got nothing but respect for you getting set to do Ironman in a few weeks, hope this provides a great hit out for you.
I hope to see all you other CRs down there too, I'll be wearing the cap! Good luck to all. I'm getting excited, think I should go for a swim now...

Hey milov,
I don't think you'll find anyone driving down on the sunday as everyone has to be there on the saturday for registration, briefing...

Great race for me today, the past 3 months of training have really payed off. After 5:38 at Port HIM in november, I get 4:37 today. Stoked!
Swim: 0:35
Bike: 2:33
Run: 1:28
I think CEM not only won his age group but also came in top 6.
The pros came out together off the water, Griffen put 10 minutes on them on the bike (1:58 for 83km) and him and Berkel both did 1:11 on the run.
I was a few meters behind Roxii when he got caught for drafting... I'll let him tell his o

I had a lacklustre effort at the Canberra HIM (my first) two months ago. By the time I got to the run leg there I felt like I was moving slowly through treacle! The last few kms were the most painful and difficult I’ve ever experienced in a race before.
The difference compared to Husky yesterday was incredible. When I started the run I was passed by a guy going slightly faster than me who I stuck with for the first 3km and thought I could hang with for the whole run, but he pulled away at the first aid station and I didn’t want to increase the heart rate too much in order to keep up with him. So I just let him go and thought I’d never see him again. He was out of sight shortly.
But I was SO glad I paced myself because with 5km to go I felt really strong so decided to speed up and start passing people. In the last kilometre I saw that guy who had passed me appear in the distance, reeled him in and blew by him which was extremely satisfying. I was stoked to end the race by being able to sprint down the finish chute in front of my friends and feel great crossing the line (rather than lurching in like a zombie last time).
I got to meet Aunty K in the recovery area who was looking remarkably fresh and chipper for someone who had just finished a race of that distance! Then she bagged me out as being soft for not going to Port. Fair call.
Will, you beat me by 6 seconds! Our splits were eerily similar too:
Swim: Will 0:35 Me 0:33
Bike: Will 2:33 Me 2:36
Run: Will 1:28 Me 1:28
Good luck with Port, you’ll smash it! Between you and Aunty K’s comments, now I want to do an Ironman too…

This rematch showdown is getting bigger all the time although the way Will is going at the moment he has to be the odds on favourite to take out the title

Me? Well I finished my first tri (sprint) and had lotsa fun along the way. Had mini pani attack about 50 metres into the swim and wanted to climb on the surfboard of the nearest marshall, as someone who couldn't swim 50 meters 3 months ago, I always knew this part would be the most challenging for me. I was also totally freaked out knowing that the 25-29 years old men were only 3 minutes behind me and I now know how a fox feels when being pursued by a pack of hounds! Just wondering if this kind of wave start is the norm?? i.e. I was in the 35+ females who were followed by the 25-29 year old men with only 3 minute gap...I swam very wide to get out of their way which partly (but only partly!)explains my very ordinary (but-happy-to-have-survived) swim time of 21:08. For the record my other times were
48:11 bike
28:17 run
1:37 overall (oh and I'm 47 year old female)
Anway just want to say couldn't have done it without all the FABBO advice posted by all of you (esp. Wild Thing). my humble thanks!
Hopefully step up to Olympic distance next....some very serous swimming trianing needs to happen tho.!

The swim was excellent, calm waters, nice temp and once I got going I felt really confident and calm in the water - it was great! Usually I find it a bit freaky swimming so far out from the shore. The Bike - well, I'm slow on the bike and did the best I could and am pretty pleased with how the bike leg went. The Bunny caught up with me on the last lap of the bike leg and we rode back to transition together, which made it feel a bit like one of our training rides. The run I enjoyed, the best scenery and the volunteers and supporters were excellent. Thanks Balance crew!! I just paced myself on the run as it was quite hot out on the course and I felt pretty comfortable the whole way. Aunty K looked really good on the run - getting around pretty fast. The Bunny, like usual, sped off as soon as we hit the run course and did a great run time. A fab event and I reckon I'll be back for more!
Congrats also to Wildthing - she did the 5km run the day before and came running through the finishing shute looking very strong! Well done!

Are you talking about me??
I had a fabulous weekend & loved this race
It was my first time to Husky & first time at this particular event. I loved the course & although the swim always gets me nervy from the start, I was determined to hang in there & give it a good hit-out yesterday. I remembered during the race something my coach told me 'it is great to race during IM training, as it is the reward for the hard work being put in'... and this kept going through my head the entire race... thanks Coach!
Swim: What can I say?!?!? I suck at swimming
Bike: I have improved greatly & was really pleased to give it a good go yesterday. I got faster with each lap & this made me mighty pleased with myself.
Run: My favourite part of the race. I felt great the entire time and wanted to run further... but was happy with the 20k effort.
Cheersquads: How good was the cheering!!! I had cheersquads all around the course. Tartanrunner even appeared on several parts of the course.... i remember mentioning the pub to her
Finish Time: 5:25:??
CR's: Lovely to meet up with RaceMikeRace, TartanRunner & Archy.
Post Party Celebrations: What can I say - WE CELEBRATED!!!!
Cheers,
AK
PS. WT looked great at the 5k race on Saturday..... CONGRATS!!

I went to Husky as support crew and cheerer for the members of our triathlon club (Balance) who were racing. After deciding not to race the sprint I thought I would do the 5km fun run on Saturday afternoon.
The start was a bit late (330pm) and deciding what to eat (or not to eat) for lunch proved challenging. Most of my pub meal was pushed aside in the interest of not regurgitating it on the course later!
It seemed like every kid in Husky was out for a run so, when the gun went off, there was a stampede of crazy kids. The good part was that most of them stopped runing after 500m.
Based on my current form I decided that anything under 35mins was going to be good for me. It was hot and I couldn't get enough of that coastal breeze. I felt good and liked the undulating course. With 1km to go I picked up the pace a bit and decided to try and catch a girl that had just passed me. As I approached the finishing shute I put on a burst of speed, running past that girl and finishing to the cheers of my tri club supporters.
I stuffed up my watch at the start and , despite wearing a timing chip, no results have been posted on the website. However Rob asures me that my time was about 33 mins - very happy.
Watching everyone race the long course on Sunday was fantastic. What a great course for spectating. There were many highlights but by far the best was having hubby Helmet come out of the water way sooner than expected - he smashed the swim. I was so excited. He is going to do so well at Port in April.
Outstanding effort by Bunny and Nihao who both looked in control all day. There was also amazing results from my tri club buddies who have been training like demons - all their efforts are paying off.
And of course my favourite Aunty who had a blinder - you a truely a star and now it is my turn to be proud. Thanks for looking after me last week.
We sure did CELEBRATE and it was GREAT!
Bring on Port

Apparently Aunty's swim that "sucks" was still a good 6 minutes ahead of mine so I swim slow, transition slow and cycle slow !! What have I done entering the full Ironman.
I was pleased to see Will fly past me looking sensational and like a cyclist. Would not have even guessed he has a running background but the icing on the cake was that he also had a stellar run and swim so looks like he is now a triathlete.
The only reason I flew past a couple of people on the run as I was seriously worried I would be timed out and sent off the course any moment now. After the first km I settled myself down to a more regular pace as I realised I was going too hard and had 19km to go yet.
The course was very pretty and relaxed. Even when we had a row of cars following us at the end of the cycle they were amazingly restrained and stayed behind us waiting a long time for the right moment to overtake.
Great efforts from the other CR's too. It was really nice to be in the same swim wave as Aunty, Beatrice and Nihao.
Who was the english guy with the RFYL hat on ? When you cheered me on you looked way too happy out there on the run.
Even cycling last I would still recommend this tri if you are thinking about doing one.
