Most people will know that we are very keen to see people post their running photos, social photos to CR. We have had 2 goes at this with reasonable success, however the main issues are : photos made smaller on uploads, spams written as comments, CRs not having access to create albums but equally don't want to risk "accidental" deletions. With the current album we have been creating separate accounts for those that ask but its not a good situation. Also the uploaders were prety slow. People have been voting with their feet and using picasa, flickr etc and its a shame to not have them on CR.

So anyway here is take #3: http://photos.coolrunning.com.au/

If you login as info@coolrunning.com.au and password coolphotosrus then you will be able to create, name, rename any albums. It also has a cool tagging system and you can upload original sized photos. NO LIMITS - INFINITY & BEYOND ! WE encourage you to load as many, and as large as you like - preferably to separate albums. If you see photos you like you can even buy them at various sizes, make books, mouse mats etc. cool as.

Anyway this is a soft launch so please give us some feedback and time to fix up before I change all the links on the left hand menus.

I might be looking for a volunteer to help migrate old photos to the new galleries. I don't think there is a tool to do it. If anyone is a smugmug superstar then let me know.

I've tried the Send to Smugmug option and it seems as slow as treacle.
Now adding pics via the Java option and it's lightning fast.

There's no option to delete albums or pics? I assume you must be owner to do that, but the uploader really needs that right as well.
I need to have the pic in 'Other' deleted. It was just a test run.

boonarga - There is no option for the guest level access to delete (reasonable risk of nastiness).
However you can create a please delete these category - which I have done for your pic. Then someone can tidy up later. Not much reason to delete though if you can move to the right space ... ?

At least there are number of different upload options, presumbaly one can be found that is acceptable. A big improvement on the previous galleries though.

Ta Kevin. That option for deleting is fine.

Smugmug appears to be much, much better than the current gallery. My second attempt at uploading was a breeze. Looks like you found a winner.

Hi Kev, I uploaded photos about a month ago, 'Captial City Trail 10 Feb 2008', now I can't find them, I take it they've been placed in a folder somewhere.    They were in the 'new' folder for some time.

By way of a trial, I just uploaded about a 1/4 GByte's worth of photos from the 2007 SMH half (ones that I hadn't previously put on the CR gallery). As I use Picasa to manage my photos, I was really pleased to find that there's a method to upload straight from Picasa. It took about 50 minutes to upload, but that's fair enough given the size of the load and the upload speed of my link.

Very happy. This is the best yet.

I've been trying the Picasa option to upload but not sure it's working ok. I let it run for 15 minutes but all I have is a white page with one line of text and nothing much happening.

It even works with the PicLens plugin for Firefox! Very cool.

Nice one Gnome! I had the shock of my life looking through those photos and seeing 2 or 3 of myself, looking absolutely knackered, and as always, studying intensely the ground in front of me. Fond memories of that race, first time I had run it without walking, which was down to Tiger Angel hooking up with me coming out of Macquaries chair on the 2nd lap and keeping me going, even if she did zoom up Argle St leaving me eating her dust, AFTER telling me she was struggling and might walk!
Great race that one.

When I used the Picasa option there was always some indication that things were progressing. I don't recall ever seeing something like you described. Sorry.

Some awesome 6 foot photos taken by Vurt's Mum & Dad have been added to the six foot gallery.

I think that this one sums up the feeling of slight dismay that kicks in after the initial elated rush passes... (is it cruel that I seem to be laughing???)

loaded the photos through picasa and it was as slow as a wet week BUT it WORKED!!!!  So here they are Owls photos of six foot

Unfortunately my camera battery went flat so I didn't get many.

I started off the upload of my Coast 2 Kosci photos before I left home this morning and they seem to have worked. Problem is that they are sitting in Coast 2 Kosci folder and I can't see how to create a sub-folder and move them in there?

This gallery is brilliant for uploading and viewing pics. The organisation of the albums is a bit haphazard though. It would be nice to be able to create an album for a particular race and have all the sub-albums from various photographers in there. At the moment they are spread all around.

I think we can set each race as a category and then have albums in there - someone has already done that for city to surf (not me) and sixfoot (was me).

if you list the races you would like I will create them. then you will be able to move albums in there. just list in a response to this thread.

Hi Kev

Well done on the new Photo Gallery. Did you know that SmugMug is compatible with the FireFox pluggin called CoolIris ?

It's a full screen rolling gallery that provides thumbnails of the pics with the ability to zoom in on any pic. A screen shot is attached.

What I had in mind was an album for all GH races, then a sub-album for each year. All the other major events need to have yearly albums as well.
With Glasshouse you could also go deeper with albums for each of the races. (Hares&Hounds, May, July and September)
That may be going a little too deep though?



Also agree with Gronk.  CoolIris (was Piclens) is brilliant. Anybody with Firefox should install it.

I have created a category - Glasshouse Trail Runs.
You can only go as deep as sub-categories so I created a 2008 events and a 2007 events, but you can put as many albums as you like in each sub-category (or category) so I think that will be ok. Let me know if you need more.
I moved some albums in there to get started.

Interesting stats on the albums:
Photos uploaded: 6355
Disk space used: 17.33 GB
This month > Photos viewed: 63776 | Bandwidth used: 8.52 GB

I realised tonight that I had included a couple of pics that I didn't want to post. I couldn't delete them tonight so moved them to the junk folder.

I have been doing a little work cleaning/organising the photo gallery and hopefully it makes it a little more logical and user friendly now. I hope nobody minds.

I will need some help deleting/renaming some galleries. Who has access to help me with this? I am happy to do it if smeone gives me a password or whatever is required.

In the process (got to love multi windows) of dropping 76 photos from this years North Face 100. Realised I prob should have created a new folder within TNF folder rather than just add into current folder.

If this is the case please let me know how to do this post upload other wise then there are 76 new photos for people to checkout.

I can get into the old photo album but not the new, it keeps coming up with internet connection problem.  The same when I click on anyone's links saying "pics".  Any solutions to this problem?

Been trying to add photos from Frankston to Portsea for a couple of days but can't get the photo page to open.  I can't even view existing galleries.  Is there a problem with smugmug or is it something to do with us?

Our friendly neighbourhood sys admin has fixed the problem which, as I suspected was DNS. Being DNS, it will take some time to propogate throughout the wide wide world of web so you may find it working straight away or you may find it taking up to 48hrs to work.

I'm newish to cool running.
How do I get the a small pic to come up underneath my name on my posts (like every other member!)
I've had a good look in profile settings but I'm missing something.
I have a photo in my profile if I click on it, but not on my posts.
