Getting Back On Track After A ColdHow to get back with the program?

I didn't run on the weekend because of an ugly cold. I'm still a bit sick.. but I'm itching to go for a run.
I'm following the GC HM training guide, and now wondering... Do I try and make up for the missed runs or forget the missed days and resume the guide at the current schedule?
What's the general rule?
Cheers,

Welcome to CR !
I don't know if there is a general rule, but my own rules of thumb are:
1) Don't run if your cold is 'below the neck' (e.g. chest cough or tight breathing)
2) Be flexible when picking up the program again. See how you feel. Don't fret about missing only a few sessions - it's the whole program that counts. So, I'd re-join the program based on the date but ease back into the sessions based on how you feel. For example: run a lesser number of intervals in a speed session, or a shorter distance in a long session.

Never feel rushed such that you 'must be' at a given point in any programme. That's always asking for trouble.
If it's just a weekend you had off, that is absolutely nothing in the scheme of things.

I've read this rule elsewhere as well as here. Let me just say it is garbage. I've just been diagnosed with sinusitis which is above the neck and couldn't run 6ks to save my life at the moment. It's the reason I had to drop out of 6ft at the 20k mark with no energy.
So it's not a hard and fast rule. You really have to judge for yourself how you are doing and tailor or even stop training based on that.

To read slowmo's statement in context, she wasn't saying this was a general 'hard and fast' rule but one by which she stands by, which makes a hell of a lot of sense to me. So to call this statement garbage FPT is very disappointing.

Why? It's not true (expecially in my case), and I said that I'd read similar statements to that in other locations. I wasn't having a go at slowmo just saying that it's not a rule by which to live.
Should I have congratulated her on propogating something which could do harm to people?

Which has nothing at all to do with what slowmo said ...

Hmm, yes on re-reading I can see that I read in stuff that slowmo didn't actually say. Just on many threads on other boards that I've come across they talk about the neck rule. ie you can keep running if the cold is above the neck. This similar thing can be inferred from what Slowmo said. So it's not "nothing at all" to do with it, I was addressing the other side. But apologies to slowmo for reading in something that wasn't explicitly stated.

Thanks for all the advice! I decided to go for a run anyway! I didn't run any PB's but managed my scheduled 40 minutes.
I just have a small dry cough, but apart from that feeling pretty good.
I decided to just forget about my missed weekend run, and carry on... I was worried I was going to miss a few more runs and whether that would impact on my being able to finish 21K without too much trouble.
My next run's on Thursday morning, so I'll have a little time to rest.
Don't worry slowmo, I knew you were a bloke all along!

Anyway, don't get sinusitis it f**ks up your ability to run.
Yeah I had some inside knowledge all right - all wrong. I'm so about that Slowmo

And FPT hope you're up and running strongly again real soon. We're all guilty of making wrong assumptions sometimes, hey?

Just remember its better to skip a session or two, rest and recover quickly and be in good shape for the rest of your program than battle through a session a bit under the weather and then be like that for the next two weeks or longer.
If you miss a session don't try to catch up on it, just accept that its gone and move on from there. Sounds like you're doing all the right things, good luck and see you in July!
