Guys,
I am tossing up between buying my usual pair of Nimbus or trying the Glycein 6. A quick run in the shop and i couldn't make up my mind.
Has anyone used both and what was the better pair?
Cheers :D

Is there something wrong with your existing pair that makes you want to change brand?

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

(Now on my 14th straight pair of Mizunos).

On this thread I'm agreeing with Bellthorpe; stay with the ones that work well for you. I recently switched to Brooks and I'm now having foot and calf problems. Wished I stayed with Asics.

I have always bought Nimbus and loved them, but last week bought a pair of Brooks Glycerin as I have had a calf injury and achilles injuries and a stress fracture in the last 12 months and suspect maybe the slight change in design of the Nimbus is the reason. I have run about 50km with the Glycerin and they are a very nice comfortable shoe....but not as much cushioning as the Nimbus. So, if you have no sign of injury, I would stick with what works...if, like me, you are developing some problems, give them a go.

Cheers,
Miss G.

I have run in Glycerines' since being recommended both brands years back by Podrunner, the first pair being Glycerine 2's. I've also had two pair of Nimbus'sss and found both pairs to be heavier and hotter on the road than the G's. For me, Glycerines by a mile! :D

I always used to have Brooks, the last pair were some Inspire 3's (I think), but about 3 months ago, bought a pair of Nimbus's, and they're a whole different world.
I don't think the Inspire's are a high-end Brooks model, but the Nimbus's feel 1000 times better.
I haven't had any injuries or anything yet, so I'm just going with what feels good.
Different people have different feet, and what feels good for one person, may not feel good for someone else. Go with what feels right.

There was a full page ad in the Herald Sun on Thursday about the $140 Nimbus' and $150 Kayanos.
Went in to Rebel in Bourke St Melbourne (at 1000hrs this morning). As with my previous visits to Rebel, a complete and utter waste of time. They had Nimbus' there on the shelf marked Nimbus 9 with a price of $239.95. While trying on a pair a salesperson hastily approached with quite a worried look on his face. I asked him about the special and he said that they sold out of those on special on Thursday. I'm not one to make a fuss and I don't profess to know the difference between models on appearance alone. But the shelf sticker and the sticker on the box of the pair I was trying on said 9. At the end of the day it's obvious that once again I was wasting my time going into that place, I'd much rather spend my hard earned at Leo Russell's store than Rebel any day *smacks self in head*

I had been a loyal Nimbus runner for years. I was devastated when they brought out the 8's which were quite possibly the worst shoe I have ever run in: a totally different shoe to any previous model Nimbus and had foot injuries straight away. Having struggled with countless injuries over the years, I don't have the luxury of being able to run in shoes that are anything less than spot on. I bought the Saucony Triumph and Glycerin which were both a heap better.

The Nimbus 9 is much better than the 8 but still not as good as 5 - 7 and I find I sit much higher in the shoe which I'm not a fan of. I've now bought a couple of pairs of Glycerins. Would take a lot to get me to buy Nimbus again. Really don't understand why manufacturers make such savage changes to shoes that are popular because they're a good shoe, and turn them into totally different shoes. They can do all the scientific testing they want, the quality will only be shown once people run in them.

I have not run in the Nimbus but spent the last 2 years in Asics 2110s and 2120s.

After a few strains here and there (and what seems to be chronic ITB) I decided perhaps a more neutral shoe was necessary to allow for MORE pronation, as I wear orthotics and figured that maybe an orthotic plus a shoe that limits pronations was provong to be TOO STIFF and MORE INWARD ROLL might actually help out.

Anyway, I bought a pair of the latest Brooks Glycerin (the green ones, not sure of the model number) and they seem (to me) to be a fantastic shoe.

Although I've still got ITB on and off (stretching is helping that) it's not as regular and it only happens on MUCH LONGER distances now.

Also, the Glycerins seem MUCH soften under foot than the Asics 2110s or 2120s.

So for me, the Brooks Glycerin v Asics 2110/20s? Brooks wins hands down.

v the Nimbus? I'll continue to read this thread to find that out!

My other half saw the same ad Spectre - upon our return from the mid-north NSW coast (where there were no Rebel Sports shops) we high-tailed it to Eastgardens and proceeded to secure a pair of the Nimbus Shoes - at the reduced price - albeit we had to point out they were reduced... and (and this is the GREAT bit) we LAYBY'D THEM!! :D

I've got a pair of Brooks Dyads that I have to return (bad advice from Running Shop dude) and am going to try for the old switcheroo!! The nimbus felt great!

I've been running around trying to find a suitable shoe and actually took a pair of Glycerine's to my podiatrist to try them vs my current Asics 1130's. I have orthotics, and the 1130's are fine. HOWEVER the neutral Glycerine was not; the little video camera watching me run on the treadmill saw one foot roll in way too far.

Be careful if you have orthotics, I now understand how differently they can perform in a variety of shoes.

grrrr, bigpond server still down after last week's storm (ie, no internet at home).

I've been with Nimbus for a few years, and actually prefer the fit of the 8's over the 7's and 6's. But I've nearly worn through a pair of 9's and they've hardly done any mileage...

I've gone through about 15 pairs of Glycerins from the 3's to the 5's and am looking forward to getting the 6's shortly. I love them and they suit me nicely.

However, the 5's had an inferior inner sole that heated the feet up significantly more than the 3's and 4's. I had to overcome the problem by using the inner soles of the 3's and 4's in my 5's.

Hopefully Brooks have fixed this problem with the 6's.

I was a Nimbus runner for a couple of years as well but I felt the last few versions were just not the same. I switched to the Brooks Glycerin and I love them. I have just purchased a pair of the Asics Stratus from the US. These are a great shoe if you like a more flexible feel and are much cheaper than the Nimbus.

I have also noticed that Brooks have a new shoe on sale which took my interest Defyance!

I have had the same experience! Been using Nimbus for the past 8 years ( or more?) and only with the latest model have I been getting strained calves etc. I have even resorted to adding a wedge under my orthotic in the heel.
Good to hear it is not just me!
