Love your work Sook, and great Sub53 on Saturday! I suspect, however, this "new" course is going to sneak up on a few people and that the up-hill finish up Art Gallery Rd and then College St will sort us out.  You'll want to be well ahead of your k splits before tackling those last few k's.

I hear you o wise langsw person! I have to admit I only did one lap - it was on top of a 10k run into town but not at pace.

Can somebody tell me what sort of incline/decline it is along the road to/from Mrs Macquarie's Chair?

It's a pretty gradual incline upwards from Mrs Macquarie's chair to college st (over a couple of kms). Someone with a Garmin can probably give the exact figures.

There's that steep sharp incline right at the end though, which will be a killer the second time round I reckon

This topic is appropriate so I figure I'll just tack on a new entry!

There's a group of us meeting to practice the SMH half route this Sunday, 02/05 at 8am, meeting at St James Station, the exit nearest the start line. All different paces, I'm looking to do the practice run in between 120 and 130 minutes taking it nice and easy, other runners are a bit faster, others a bit slower, but we are all SUPER FRIENDLY!  :(

Anyone keen to join us? Just try to spot the chicky with the green hair and one arm. It's a pretty easy game  :(

Cheers,

Debzillah

I suppose I should have introduced myself "long time lurker, first time poster" hahahaha. Thank you for your lovely warm welcome and I'll be sure to post more often now about upcoming runs and racing adventures :(

Hi Deb
I may drop by Sunday morning if I don't do the course tomorrow. It will be nice to run with a group for extra motivation.

Hi Debzillah, this sounds like a great idea and certainly something that I'd find helfpul. I'm wondering whether you'd be thinking of doing the same thing the following Sunday (May 9--although I realise it's Mothers Day)? I'm committed elsewhere this Sunday morning which is a pity...
Or, I gather you're running the full 21km, but would it be possible for me to join you for just one loop of the course to familiarise myself with it, and then head off to my other commitment? Would that be OK or a bit anti-social??

Ninjette.

Have a good one on 2 May, but be aware that 9 May is the Mothers Day Classic and that they're using part of the course. Cheers. :(

Hi, I'm also a long time lurker here.

I may just join you on Sunday morning for the course practice. I ran the full two laps last week in about 130 mins so hopefullly won't be too slow.

Just got back from one lap of the course at lunch time today and all of the SMH HM banner are up along College St and Macquarie St - very exciting!

Awesome! Sounds like I may meet a few new people on Sunday, yay! Join for as little or as long as you like - I'll be running the mothers day classic next weekend though! :(

Hi All

I can't make this Sunday, but I did do one loop the other weekend, which I did find very helpful in terms of getting *slightly* familiar with the course. It seems quite nice! Hunter Street isn't really that bad is it?

Looking forward to the race!

Cheers, Scott

Go out too hard at the beginning and Hunter kills you the second time around. Have a good one!

Hi Deb, it was lovely to meet you this morning and the guys. Thanks for organising this 'run through' which was really helpful; thanks also to Mark for running with me for the lap. I'm sure it was a painfully slow jog for him, but he did push me to my best time for the 10.5km, and I now feel confident about coming in under the 75min/11km cutoff, which is great. Good luck to all on race day and I hope you meet (and exceed) your goals!!

Ninjette.  :(

Hi Deb and Ninjette! Stuffed up my times this morning and started a bit early but did pass you twice (in the opposite direction!), once in the Rocks and once near the corner of College / Macquarie Streets...I recognised the hair! I must stop and say hello next time. I did a lap yesterday and managed nearly 2 laps this morning, just couldn't bring myself to do the last lap of the Domain (possibly due to last nights wines)! Hunter Street the second time round was funny...my legs were already so sore that going up second time round couldn't add more to the pain!
I'm also doing the 8km Mothers Day Classic next Sunday, I'll be sure to say hi if I see you.
Good on you Ninjette for breaking that cut off time! :(

Hi all - great to see that everyone has now had a look at the course. Focus not on the cutoff times, but only on the finish line. The Mothers Day Classic is a great event, great spirit and for a fantastic cause, just be mindful that if you race the MDC to the best of your ability, it may be tough for you to back this up again in the half a week later. Obviously you could choose to go for broke at both (and it has come off for many in the past), but if the half is your goal then maybe consider running the 8km at only 80-85% and leaving it all on the course the week later.

I am sure that you will all attain your goals on the day!

Thanks Ninjette for coming along and enjoying a great social run with us! I only did the course once as well, as we lost sight of you and Mark and I elected to wait at the car in case of return :D Its all good though! I did a hard 7km (bay run) Sunday night to make up for it, spin class last night and another loop of the bay today... I will start tapering soon I promise!! LOL.

Thanks also for sharing in what turned out to be such an incredibly beautiful morning. From mists and fog to glorious sunshine! What a city we live in :D

Hope to see you on the day! And look forward to meeting you, Miraball :)

I wonder if the Stripper offering lap dances will be at the top of the hill like last year?   I hope not, a very unecessary distraction! :D

I don't have the chance to check out the course before race day (900km round trip is a bit much for a training run).

So I was wondering - does anyone have km splits for the circuit run at around 5:00-5:30/km pace?

I am interested in how much time you lose, and where you pick it back up again, so that I have an idea of how I am going on race day.
