I just had my thyroid removed. no problems/symptoms of thyroid problems but found several nodules that biopsy showed as suspicious. 2 doctors recommended removal due to cancer risk.

i feel pretty good considering it has only been 2 days, but wondering about how this will impact my running.

i'm on synthroid and it is too early to tell if all is working. i'd love to get in contact with other runners who may have similar situation. i'll need coaching on the road to full recovery. thx

Hi there! I had my thyroid removed due to thyroid cancer about 2 years ago. I wasn't running at the time but got heavily into swimming shortly afterwards to lose some extra weight I gained in the process. I was in the pool within a couple of weeks of surgery and (apart from being unfit) didn't find too many troubles. Taking synthyroid can take a while to work out the correct dosage for you (i.e. very sluggish when my dose was too low and very anxious, twitchy and restless when dose was too high). Once that's worked out, though, you shouldn't have any trouble training in the same way as you have been in the past.

All the best for a quick recovery and a return to training!
