Hi,

I am after a new pair of running shoes..I am new so havent yet bought a pair suitable. I have seen a podiatrist in the past and I have and over-pronation so will need support for that n a runner. I went to athletes foot and Footlocker and like the feel and fit of the Asics Gel Kayano's. They are fairly expensive tho. Does anyone know anywhere in the North of Brisbane that I could go to try some others on..I also went to super amart but found them very uninformative.

Thanks in advance..its quite confusing.

If you like Kayano's then Ebay is your friend. You could expect to pay as little as $140 up to $170 delivered for a good deal. Normally they are the old model though.

In training in Milton and active stride at southbank are both excellent specialist running shoe stores with great advice, podiatrists on hand and you can try the shoes on and go for a run outside. They both have websites so you can google them to find out exactly where they are.

Like Mikel said try Intraining. I haven't had anything to do with them myself, but the owner's a podiatrist as well as a coolrunner (steve the footman) and gives excellent advice on these forums. Have a look at their website http://www.intrainin....au/default.asp.

I purchased my first pair of running shoes yesterday. I saw the guys at InTraining in Milton and I'm confident that they've recommended the right shoes for me.

Yeah, Steve's team at In training Milton are the go - best advice especially. He probably won't comment here but go to his profile then read some of the posts he makes, he is very giving to Coolrunners on matters below of the running appendages. I've paid full tote for any shoes i bought from in training, but given the info that coomes with it that's OK with me. They got me on the Mizuno's there (had just goen for Aasics on brand strength in the past) and i have been buying them ever since.
i have bought old models of my preferred shoe cheap elsewhere, but size options ar the limiting factor.

Intraining is the best running shop in Brisbane, bar none.

I have just bought adidas training (Adizero RC) shoes for half the equivalent cost in OZ from a California (US) store that I know. Contact me for details if interested. If you know what you need to buy then this is the way to go. The cost to me of 50% OZ cost was after shipping & exchange rate losses! Don't believe you can get this model in OZ anyway! The model choices are at least twice what is available here.

Tony C Baker, you might want to edit your post to leave out the name of the internet store.

Caliente
You definitely can't beat Intraining if you have any foot/gait problems or are a beginner and unsure what to buy. They are the only local place I know that will give you absolutely professional, impartial advice and also understand that it takes more than 5 minutes of walking around the shop to find the right shoe.

If you have a real problem with over-pronation and you're new to running you might also find it helpful to see one of their podiatrists first. That way they'll be able to make sure they give you the right shoe from the start.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice guys. I will head down to Intraining in the next couple of weeks. Do you need to book an appointment there or just head down? How do their prices compare with other stores?

Thanks again

An appointment for the podatrist yes i would think so. I did anwyay. and you pay for that service of course.
Getting advice on the shoes, just walk in.
Price? well i didn't seem to haev muich success batting my eyelids at the lads, but see how you go. It's not a discount store but i am happy to pay for the going rate when factoring in the advice and service.

In Training and Active Stride particularly (for me). Your man at Active Stride used to work for In Training. Same school of though and both have plenty of sound advice. In Training have their own in house podiatry clinic which I believe was the origin of the store (someone will correct me if I'm wrong) and Active Stride have an affiliation with an independent clinic, Performance Podiatry (brothers Keith and Ben - Keith was originally with In Training).

Basically a pretty close knit commercial running community in Brisbane and they'll all look after you. They're all runners ... they understand.

As for buying on eBay, just my personal opinion but I'd never by a pair of shoes that I hadn't had chance to have a jog around in. Plenty of savings but a waste of money if they're not quite right.

Fair comment. But my last 14 pairs of Mizunos have all been the same, so it works for me!

Just visited Intraining yesterday. Where I live the only options are Athletes Foot, Rebel and Amart Allsports. They basically all recommended the same shoe for me, Brooks Beast. My feet are very flat and I have some pronation. Anyway, been having problems with my knee caps etc which I'm having physio for but thought it was time to get new shoes (you should see my old ones, they were the gardening shoes for years and years!!).

Was really happy with the level of service and the observations they made. While I have very flat feet (he noticed that while I walked bare foot) when he had me running my motion was pretty controlled for a new runner with my feet and pronation. He selected some shoes for me and had me running in them, and after that discounted some of his selections before I got to them and picked others. In the end I laybyed a pair of Asics (wanna get the balance on my next CC cycle). Funny thing, got home a few hours later and realised I didn't even know what model of Asics they were :Nail Biting: Had to check the RR on the website to figure it out. Think they are 2130's. He said I didn't need a severe motion control shoe.

Anyway, I'll be running in them in a weeks time.
