CoolRunning Western Sydney 5 km Challenge is now meeting for the 2nd time
Saturday 9th August 2008
finish time 0800
Please invite anyone you know to come along to this run, the more the merrier. It is a course which consists of a large loop and a small loop to make up the 5 km. If you have friends who can not run or walk the 5 km then they can choose the long loop (~3.0 km) or the short loop (2.0km). Its all about getting people active and having a breakfast and coffee afterwards.
I will bring along the clock, course markings, caution tape, gas bbq, a billy and some paper to record the times. Fred is bringing the Bananas. I couldnt get a coffee van to come along as they all have netball or soccer functions with over 200 people attending. I will bring the Tea, Coffee, Sugar and polystyrene cups.
GoGirl has volunteered to bring along the Pancake mix.
Could someone please put thier hand up and bring along some milk and butter or substitute.
So we can cater for the right amount of people could you please pm me with the number that will be coming along with you, i.e Ratdog, Wife and 2 children. 2 friends.
To cover costs of the supplies could you please bring along a gold coin for the kitty.
here is a video of the course which will give you an indication of the path, it has changed slightly since the first race. Sorry about the music.
To get to the start line form Knox rd, do not go throught the main gates, turn left before the gates, follow it all the way down to the fork in the road, take the right fork and then the next right, if you go under the bridge, or over the creek you have gone the wrong way. If you get lost dont hesitate to call me on 0419 623 569.

Here is the old course, the new one is simplier to set up and run. we still go the 2 first out and backs but we dont do the south out and back. then on the second lap we just do the second out and back then back to the finish line in a clockwise direction.

See you all there before the run.

Thanks to Marvo for keeping me company, as I am not so sure how I would have gone without some encouragement.
I managed to get in a little before him in 23.03 and he was in 23.05. We then finished of with a nice 3km with Colin.
Great to see so many people there before the City To Surf.
Thanks to everyone for organising the run.

Dragged the kids out and cooked the pancakes although they seemed to get eaten much quicker than I could cook them. Looking forward to the weather warming up a bit and actually running next time. I think this will be really lovely in Summer. Well done RD for organising and marking the course.

Looking forward to next month when it can't possibly be as cold as this morning. I am starting to get the feeling back in my fingers and toes now which can only be a good thing!

It was really nice to have so many people there and to have a good chin wag afterwards as we tried hard to snorkel a few pancakes.
The suggestions on how to make it better have been noted and will be all sorted for next month.
I ran a nice run of 20:06 for the crazy Cosly who just loves stats. The course was short by 30 metres and it will be fixed next time.
Balri, the FLYING pan didnt turn up, so we were restricted to making pancakes for 20 people on one fry pan. Next time we will have more frying pans, and might even turn one into a flying pan. It might give the kids something to throw around whilst waiting for the next pancake to flip.
BeesKnees and BoneyChic, it will be great to see you come along also.
My Wife and 5 of our friends came along, some walked the 3 km lap and others ran the whole 5 km, with one woman running the course twice for good measure. It was her longest run ever and im really proud she did it.
Once again thanks for coming along and the next race is on 13th Septmeber 2008

I am telling you that no matter how far that Frying pan was going to Fly, it could not keep up with all of the little mouths to feed!!!
I am not sure that even two flying Fryers could keep up with demand!
It was great to see so many young people out there, along with so many of the old faces.
For Colsy I believe Colin did a 22.30 5km he did a slow 3km jog with Marvo and myself(as we were doing our cool down, or perhaps that was warm up after the race) he then sped off and did a flying(without the pan) 2km. I am sure if I have got the time wrong he will get on here pretty quick and correct me.

The weather has been really nice lately, so it should be a good weekend.
I am pretty sure Mouse will be there (pending tri training ) and I might be bringing a new runner (and CR) DemisLW for his first organised run.
Who else is planning to come along??

I'd told Gnome this was to be an easy session for me as I had squads later in the morning but somehow it turned into a really solid tempo run and I finished in 27.37.
Anyway as requested - Apricot Loaf
1 cup All-bran
1 cup lite milk
1 cup SR flour
1/2 cup raw sugar
250g dried apricots, sliced
100-125g pkt blanched whole almonds
1 cup sultanas
Combine All-bran and milk and leave to soak for 60mins. Combine remaining dry ingredients then add the soaked mixture. Place into loaf tin and cook at 160FF for about 45-50 mins. Skewer should come out clean. Freezes brilliantly.

Are slower joggers a problem if you have to lap them. I am more a shuffler than a jogger.
Are there any novice or slower runners participating that I can enjoy their company instead of running alone as I do now?
And will there be any breakfast left for the slower ones!!! ha ha Thanks

Gday getoffthatchair,
First of all welcome to CoolRunning and congrats on committing to the C25K program. This is an awesome achievement and not to be scoffed at by anyone. Alot of us, myself included started out on that very same program.
Slower joggers are more than welcome and actively encouraged to come along to meet and run with like minded people who can help motivate and introduce you to more running events if you choose to do so. There is no worries about being lapped and if your not feeling good on the day you can choose the shorter route. Its all very informal and your not expected to do anything but enjoy the morning run. Oh yeah and eat a few pancakes.
There are novice runners and if you want we can tee someone up so that you can have some company on the run. You wont get lost. We have about the same amount of men as women who come along and your more than welcome to bring along the family.
There will be pancakes for you at the end and maybe some of the CR famous Apricot Loaf if Tiger Angel comes along next month.
Any Questions please feel free to post and ask some more.

Not too confident about marking the course for December on my own as I am really navigationally challenged and there would be public outcry for sure - but - am really happy to help someone who knows the course better and I can do all the other bits and pieces you do, eg breakky, drinks etc.
