I know exactly what you're talking about...
I have a pair (maybe 2) for different occassions. I also like having different brands - Adidas, Asics, Brooks, Mizuno, Puma,... (you name it, I've go it).
Also a few pairs of sports sunnies, each a different colour for a sunny, bright or a dull day.

Just a theory, but I think having a couple of pairs on rotation helps prevent injury.

Oooo I forgot about my dog walking ones! Also retired from running. Can't say these shoes are a waste of money. It just goes to show that we use them in other ways after we're done running in them.

Older pair (Asics Nimbus) - used for cycling to/from work and the pool. Very much past their prime.
Old pair (Mizuno Inspire) - used for walking and wet-weather running. Still have a couple of hundred km's left in them
New pair (Saucony Hurricane) - all normal running

I ran barefoot again today, try to a least once a week and just love it.
Ok, I'm soft and only running on a grass oval but the feeling of wet grass on the soles of my feet, the wind in my hair, the freedom and simplicity is invigoratingly refreshing.
When I grow up I wanna be like Runbare.

1 x Brooks Glycerin
1 x Brooks Trance (just about retired)
1 x Nike Frees (not used for running)
1 x Nike Air Max (for the gym)
I plan on getting Asics Nimbus & maybe Asics DS (not the racers)
However, these runners form part of a larger shoe collection that extends to approx 80 pairs (not inclusive of 7 pairs of thongs).
I love shoes

It's genetic... I don't question it anymore than I question the colour of my eyes or the size of my fro!

Hmmmm....that depends....
Before I respond formally can you please supply me with details of your weight, height, age, arm length and if you have any previous experience in martial arts/boxing/fighting?
I will then give a considered, measured response.
Thank you for your time and effort in supplying these details and a response will be forthcoming in due time.
Yours

Upon second reflection of your communication with me, I can see the masculine logical flow of your purchases.
Each shoe, that you have described, is for a different purpose, and in full accordance with the BPT (Blokes Practical Theory), each pair of shoes is required and necessary.
Just as a blokey bloke needs a tool shed full of different tools, then a real man might need a range of running foorwear to suit the many and varied surfaces that he might find, unlike some women who buy shoes only for the colour, men buy shoes for the gutsy, practical usage that is required. therefore Milov your masculinity has not only been acknowledged, but also affirmed.
Yours...again

Brooks T4 racers - 3 pairs (1 pair almost gone, 1 pair 5 races old, 1 pair worn once)
New Balance 902 - 1 pair (almost goners)
Next on list - lightweight trainer that I will run Melbourne marathon in (possibly Saucony Grid A2)
It's interesting some peoples attachment to shoes. I see them as car tyres for people. Expensive consumables that hurt the hip pocket but the choice of the correct ones is crucial. Unless you run barefoot...

Hi TFive
Yes have decided after seven halfs I should do a full. My trouble has always been staying injured free as I ramp up the training km's. Did 26.5 today and felt good so that is a good sign
Back to the shoes, got them on sale $169 rather than $219. Could have probaby got them cheaper Online from US, but as I was in the store couldn't resist. I dont think I am allowed to mention store names on this site, but I'll send you a message to let you know
