Hi all,
I have been running for many years but only in the past year or two have been entering lots of races/competitions. My goal is to complete the Perth half in 2009 so I'm starting my training nice and early.
Anyway, I get extremely nervous before a race, and I don't know why. Whether it's a fun 5km, 10km, City to Surf, triathlon etc. I'm always rushing to the loo several times before a race with diarrhoea. Once I start running it's usually fine but then I often get stomach/bowel cramps after about 40 mins (? perhaps dehydration).
Someone suggested I take immodium or something similar pre-race, but I'd rather not have to rely on this.
Any advice or fellow nervy runners?
Thanks,
Lauren
P.S. I'm 26 and reasonably fit (I run about 25km a week with the longest usually 10 or sometimes 15km).

This is a problem that haunts many, and much has been said in previous threads about the nervous poo!
My suggestion is just to get events early, jog a little to get things moving, then line up at the loos.

Thanks Run2Work, I'll look through some previous threads to see what others say. I'm sure the more events I do the better it will get.
Cheers,
Lauren
