Hi guys
Planning to do my first half IM in Nov in Port Macquarie. Was looking to take my young family there for a holiday and was wondering if there are any functions (similar to the full IM) during the lead up to the race. After race party, pasta night etc or is it reserved for the IM?

Hi Wedged
Have a look here Port Half Ironman. Under the "Race Info" tab there is a button called "race week".
There doesn't seem to be much happening outside the expo and the race.
I notice you are from Orange which is my home town too!

Thanks WT. I had a look previously and wasn't sure if they had updated the website or not.

Also was wondering if the PM 1/2 IM books out each year or are there plenty of spots usually avail;able. Already missed out on the SMH 1/2 marathon (my own fault of course)!

No field limit at this stage Wedged - and numbers were actually down a little last year anyway. I don't think any of the HIMs actually have a field limit. Although the full IM had a 1800 field limit, so potentially that number *could* be accommodated
(although the length of road used for the bike leg is a little shorter). I would estimate a field of around 700-800 is likely
In past HIMs staged here, there has been a pasta night. And if not, I'll make sure to arrange a local welcome dinner/bbq/social ride &/or ice creams on the headland for any CRs in town

Thanks Miners. The family and I are looking forward to the event, not sure if they are looking forward to the beach or cheering their Dad in the race.

In my experience it works a treat, works even better when you do OLY - IM. Just remember race recover race, no need to smash yourself inbetween events.
