many thanks to the organisers this is still one of my favourite races
So how come I managed to screw it up so badly. I felt good at the start and went out thinking 2.30 to the river and 1.15 out from there to the finish. all fell apart at about the 15k mark and stumbled through the next 10 k feeling very ordinary. got to the 25k mark in 2.55 and realised my goals were out of the window. got down to the river in a shambling mess and then it all started to come good. my last best time from the bridge to the finish was about 1.16. so having thrown away my chance at a sub 4 hours, I then ran from the bridge to the finish in 1.05. totally confused but think that I had better do some speed training before FFFT marathon. A bit late posting this but wanted to put in a huge thumbs up for this run. What a stunner!
I was impressed with the well organised start, plenty of delicious breakfast and then came the friendly, well placed aid stations topped off with breathtaking scenery. It was like the best bits of all my favourite runs had been strung together. No idea of my time but it felt like no time at all -------------------- What's the rush

Michael, thanks so much to you and your team for another fantastic race. This is one of my favourite races, and it always has such a great atmosphere.
One comment about the web results - the record holder is Glenn Guzzo, not Len. Great work on getting the results up so quickly though. I was pleased to see that I did about a 10 min pb - 3.05.08. Next year I have to be less of a wuss on that last hill, which is never as steep as I think it is! |

Nice top 10 from sub 50! Well done. Thanks Hamburglar I love this run! Nice 20km undulating warm up and followed up by running down into the valley (ok so seeing the switch backs is a little daunting). But when you run up the other side the view really helps forget the grind. My first run here in 2006 and I had race number 110, finished in 2:51 and came 29th. 2 years later, same race number 110 (bit weird) 10 min improvement in time with a 2:41:xx and moved up 20 places (partly due to Action holding back some effort for Mudgee). Very happy with a 10min PB and great confidence boost for Trailwalker. Good solid run by Spud and Action was the prefect pace setter. Not sure who it was but the runner in front of me up out of the valley was the perfect carrot and helped me keep moving along. I was caught by another runner at the top of the climb who again encouraged me along and helped me finish strongly. Thanks thanks for some great organisation, great scones, great support from the Fireies. Just great all round...will be back next year. W2B is a fantastic event. Thanks to all who contributed to its success. Hope we raised lots of $ for local RFS.
Extra loos at start were a gopod move. Pre race scones tereffic, the sunny morning was appreciated. My third crack at this event led to a PW, but I enjoyed it more by not pushing too hard. I’ve learnt (slowly) to run conservatively while eating & drinking more. Managed all that on Saturday but lack of distance training and recent flu were never going to assist time. Two incursions into bush for tummy troubles didn’t help either (too much banana?). Conditions perfect, I thought it was going to be wetter underfoot than it was. The changing surfaces on the W2B course make the event fun to run. The setting/views are the best. Enjoyed a chat with MissZ for a while before she realised I was slowing her considerably, good luck in Trailwalker. Ba-Thirst Runners all enjoyed the day with some excellent PB’s. We will return. -------------------- Forrest Gump:
I ran for three years, five months, and two days. When I was hungry, I ate. When I was tired, I slept. When I had to go, you know, I went.

Forgot to add it would be great to see W@B and Mudgee Marathon held on different weekends. Not many events out this way and it’s a shame they are not separated by even by a week.
Not many of us are able to run events consecutive days. I mentioned this to Action pre race and he was already looking into it apparently |

What a fantastic Day
Thanks so much for everything Michael - sorry I was the only early starter but you and all the volunteers were just great ( in general and also to put up with me!!!) Great to see so many CRs flash past over the second half of the course. I certainly hope to be back next year -------------------- David -
I thought I couldn't so I didn't - now I think I can I have Why did it take so long to discover that? but as Tim notes -speed is sex, distance is love- but with my speed in ultras I might miss out on both |

Mr Flower, you sand bagger 2:36 and 7th over all is a great run for a non trail runner.
Congrats mate. -------------------- Brick's Blog?

As a trail running novice I have to say I was blown away by the race. I thought it was great. Great atmosphere, great organisation, great volunteers, a fantastic course and not too rough for my dodgy ankles. I had a great time and the race was over before I knew it.
The toughest part was the long downhill. I could feel the damage to my quads with every step. I was relieved to see the long uphill and in a perverse way I really enjoyed the long climb. Sort of reminded me of doing long hill climbs on the bike. You just have to stay in a rhythm and don't push too early. I was very pleased with my time and place (actually 8th). I will definitely be back to have another go. Well done to everyone elase especially the ACZD girls. You were all great and I really look forward to cheering them on at Trailwalker next week. |

Hi
Great to see the W2B is still one of the best organized and run races going with a lot of work making the track more runnable no slippery dips (what a shame) sorta miss that slip sliding away For me it was a great day having race number 10 and finishing ten straight races nearly 40min slower than my best, but after last year just glad to finish 5min outside my objective Has to be one of the must do runs on the calendar sorry Bob F it may not be a marathon (only 10min slower) but definitely not a waste of a marathon I’d give up a marathon any day just to compete My favourite course up hills and down dales plenty of drink stations and friendly atmosphere Thanks for everything BBFB Lou PS MMM maybe it's up dales and roll down hills This post has been edited by Louie de Fly: Aug 26 2008, 12:34 PM |

Congratulations MrFlower.
I've just worked out who you are! I don't know about your name though!!! It's a bit..... for an Ironman like yourself. And to think you could have been out there training with the girls all this time and having lots of fun. Thanks for your good wishes to the ACZD Girls. Hope to see you on lots more bush runs now. Best wishes, Dutchie |

He uses Mr Flower on all forums that I know he is on, why you might ask.
Just think about his name and it jumps out at you the reason why. Brick -------------------- Brick's Blog?

Mr Flower is a nickname that I got through high school and university. You have to know a little Italian to understand. As Brick says, it is all in the name.
As for running with the girls, it is the only way to go. On a serious note I have learnt through many years of experience that your long runs are supposed to done at an easy pace. Running with Striders and the 6:20 group I have found that too often the guys hammer that long run too much. So I like to back off and stay at the back with the ladies. Enables me to be fresh for the rest of the sessions that week and also pick up some good recipes |

Lost property
Our secretary advises that we have numerous sets of gloves and caps that are not named and what look like a very expensive set of hand supports!! Perhaps interested persons could email her at secretary@bilpinbushfirebrigade.org that would be great. Hope you have all recovered! I think I have. Kind regards Michael |

While you mention lost property a big thank you to Cathy who mailed me about my lost property (DOH!) and then refused my offer of payment for the postage. Another reason to support this great race!

Re T-shirts - We are doing these ourselves (experts in the brigade) and have found the materials used are not satisfactory so rather than send out faulty goods we are getting them redone. I know that this IS dragging on but I have not forgottten you!
2009 W2B Run - the committee will be getting together shortly to get next years race under way - before the fire season starts in earnest! Michael |
