this should definitely be done again, IMO;

I'm sure there are lots like me on the sidelines that would love to be a part of a second running. Perhaps you guys will be able to reminisce on being part of the first running of what might become melbournes premier fatass event.

What a great day. I am still on a high. My whole intention of this run was to see how far I could go. I was never expecting to finish. But finished we did.

Thankyou so much to the fellow runners, of wooh, staypuff, and luckyguy.

Firstly I will start with staypuff. You are an inspiration. Youre zest of life is amazing. I love your cheeky side, it made me laugh so much. Your run of 23k, was awesome. well done.

Luckyguy, you are lucky with that bum.  Thankyou so much for your encouragement, and support along the way. You made it feel easy to run, and your chats along the  way, were awesome. Thanks for bringing in the magazines and photos of the big m marathons. Looking forward to future runs with you.

Wombat. I remember when I first did my 30k run, you were there. Now again you were there for the 42.195... Thanks for running the last 9k or so with me.
You are awesome. To run with the famous wombat to the art centre, is a moment that won't be forgotten. Youre support and chats were fantastic.

Thanks for organising the event. A huge thankyou, too for mrs wombat.  Thanks for a car well stocked of food and drinks. Youre generous lift back to the car was very appreciated.  Yourself and mr w are very generous and gorgeous people. Good luck too with your running aspirations

It was great to meet along the way too, PB, maryclaire, mark and michelle  ( I hope thats right )

This would be a great annual event, which I  would do again.  I am now looking so forward to the melbourne marathon. This run has boosted my confidence, that I can do the distance.

cheers and hope all that ran is feeling well today.

take care

Terrie

Well it must be my turn to report in. Just back from an easy 5k and every thing seems to working OK (at least from the hips down).

The inaugural 'Frankston to Melbourne fatass' was a great success. Thanks to the selfless and cheerful efforts of Mrs. Wooh and the welcome site of her yellow car every 5 k's, packed with goodies and refreshments. It's fair to say that this wouldn't have got off the ground otherwise.

The weather turned out to be fantastic, cool and just the slightest head breeze, as we worked our way up beach road (fingers crossed for similar weather on October 11th).

And as for my companions. Awesome efforts by Wooh and mlifty (cheeky). Thanks for your cheerful, inspiring company and now the owners of 'bragging rights' for having run 43 K's from Frankston to Melbourne. I think those who couldn't turn up yesterday may be a little bit envious and I surely think we'll have bigger numbers next year.

Nice to catch up with Paul at Mordialloc, Mark and Michelle at Black Rock and Maryclaire at Sandringham (there abouts). Thanks Mc for listening to my prattle and helping the last 10 seem effortless.

And no, I haven't forgotten you Staypuff, irrepressible, brave and just a wonderful character.

Bravo to all of us. Michael.

....Finally, a HUGE thank you to Mrs Wombat who supported the entire distance, and then drove us back to our start points.  This could not have been done without such support.  Both Mrs W and WOOH were extremely generous in stocking the support vehicle with food and drink. :D

OMG!  There was food in the Yellow Wiggle car!  Greybeard and I were starving when we put in our tandem cameo appearance.

Greybeard needs to change his name now there's no beard!  Took me ages to work out who it was!  Also the Wiggles have a big red car-not yellow.
Like everyone else I had a great day.  I always wanted to go the distance but with recent injuries and the fact my previous longest run since a marathon in November was 23km I'd decided I'd be really happy with 30 to 33 km.  I was hoping the slower pace might keep me going and as it happened it did.
Good to see Wobbly and Greybeard at the start-I was a little jealous of the bikes though as it would have been alot easier-and quicker-with wheels.  In revenge, we hid the food from them.
The small group of Mlifty, Staypuff, Luckyguy and myself set off.  The weather was perfect-cool, overcast and no wind.  We pretty much ran as 2 pairs until Mordialloc, changing partners every now and again.  It was nice to catch up-I hadn't seen LG or Mlifty in a while.  With Mrs Wombat replenishing us every 5km or so all was going well.  My only problem was some mild pain in the hip flexors-the plantar facsiitis wasn't notaiceable.
At Mordialloc we were joined by PB whom i hadn't met before.  Had a great discussion on the old marathon and the atmosphere of the event.  I'm more than a little dissapinted that I missed those days.
Eat Em and Duckgirl joined us at Black Rock having run down from St Kilda to meet us.  Staypuff stopped at 24km having done the distance her coach said too-I was surprised because her record doesn't show much of her doing as she's told.  Maryclaire joined us at Sandringham.  PB left us as some stage to run back to where he started but I don'd remember where.
At Brighton we departed from the old route and followed the path along the beach.  This was for a couple of reasons-no roads to cross and a nicer route.
Duckgirl and Eat Em left us at St Kilda and I was running with Mlifty, LG and MC having gone ahead.  Mlifty is a great running partner and we had a lovely chat as we encouraged each other along.  My feet were a little sore but by this stage I would have finished if I had to crawl tha last bit.  We were both a bit excited as neither of us had managed to run the whole of the official Melbourne Marathon last year (she did alot better than me though) but this time we'd run every step of the way.  You could hear the joy in her voice-it was fantastic.  The Concert Hall Spire came into sight and we ran hard the last bit.  Actually the last km was the fastest of the day.
After the hugs and handshakes we went to Southbank food court for some well earned lunch and what was the best coffee I've had in years.  Lots of laughter and chatting was a great way to finish the day.  In hindsight wandering absentmindedly around the food court pulling up my shorts and scratching my butt cheek when not wearing underwear might have put some of the other customers off their food a little.
End of the day stats (for me) were 42.85km in about 4:40 @ 6:31 minute/km.  We had stops every 5km totalling 36 minutes.  None of us sat down at all so that's 5:16 hours on our feet.  This has been a huge confidence booster for me.  I've entered the Gold Coast marathon and really had no idea if I could go the distance.  The total time on my feet is good as well as I'm hoping to run my first ultra later in the year.
A big thanks to my running companions-they made the journey much more fun and interesting.  A huge thanks to my adorable wife for her time and patience looking after us.
Whos up for next year?

Congrats to Mr Wooh and Mlifty who ran the whole course...you legends. And to everyone else who ran yesterday....well done and thank you. It was a great day.....

To the Wombats, you guys rock.....thanks for the lollies, water and company.

EE and I had a lovely run down from St. Kilda to black rock, checking out the bikes that went past, and picking out which house we would like to live in if we ever won tattslotto :D

Running back to St Kilda with the "group" certainly made the return trip on tiring legs a little easier.

Definitely count me in for the whole way next time.

Huge well done to all involved. Sounds like it was everyone else's loss to have missed this. I'm disappointed that I didn't give it a go, but after Williamstown last week I figured it would be stupid to try it. Definitely count me in for the next time. Actually, any chance of a repeat (or similar) before the end of the year?

G'day Baz777, mlifty and myself have tentatively talked about doing another long run, this time along the Warburton trail from Lillydale to Warburton (this is on the back of our success last Sunday). I believe this to be about the marathon distance, but I'll double check on mapmyrun later for approx. accuracy). Date and time yet to be confirmed but I would be hoping within the next 8 weeks.  More runners the merrier, however my wife will be transporting us back to the start at Lillydale, so if there is more than 4 runners then we will need extra vehicles, of course.

When I get a chance to speak with mlifty and we can confirm a day and the incidentals, I'll then post a separate thread on this topic.

Cheers for now, Michael.

Michael, Lillydale to Warburton along the trail is 36k.

This is my all time favourite place to run so if the date suits I will definitely be there!

Congratulations on an amazing run you guys. Wobbly and I were thinking you'd be lucky to get past the first decent coffee at Black Rock, especially with the cold damp weather and the headwind. Well done!

Next time I'll introduce myself...
