Howdy all;

Just a quick topic starter with Ironman Western Australia only 80 DAYS AWAY

So firstly, I am have only completed 1 x 100km plus ride and no running over 8kms, so to say I will be fresh going into Ironman is an understatement!!

So how is everyone else travelling, training program going to plan?

See you all in Busselton

Hi Neavesy, don't worry you've still got plenty of time to get in a few big rides and runs. As you say its better to go in a bit fresh than the alternative..?!

I'm not racing this year and probably just as well because my training has not been going to plan at all. Problems with work, kids, ageing body not co-operating... somedays I'm lucky just to get out the door! But then I turn on the tele and see those amazing paralympians and realise I have nothing to complain about and that usually helps me immensely.

Anyway I hope your training goes well and you arrive at the start line fit and ready for a great day. I look forward to hearing how your (and other CR's) journeys go.

Busted out a 180k ride a couple days ago, and with the fist 30km of dealing with peak hour morning traffic on my roads, and the last 30km of not-as-intense, but still an annoying amount of traffic, i averaged 30.1km/hr. Unfortunately no wind, so no further excuses i can concoct
80 days of training left; might be a little optimistic to think i can do the ride in under 5 hours, but we all have goals don't we :D

(Mind you, i'll only be cycling in the team - 3 medical students take on the iron man!)

I'm looking forward to this. Rode 190k on the weekend and did an off-the-bike pb for my 14k course at the end. Still haven't learnt to swim tho!

Uncle Daves's Ironman P.B of 9:08 set April, 2004 at Ironman Australia, Forster, NSW looks lset for a good shake.

Now, if you could just learn to swim.

9:08? In Forster? Oh my.

Paid my money today. First week back this week after a couple of nothing after ITU Long Course. It hurt. 12 week program so no concern as yet.

Uncle Dave, CANT SWIM???? If I did a 9:08, I wouldn't really be caring if I was last out of the water!! :D

Yes 79 days to go  less time I train less time I have a chance of getting overuse injuries!!

Happy training

Let's put some perspective here folks!! Uncle Dave can swim....it may not be his strength but out of 1478 athletes at Forster in 2004 this was Unce Dave's splits

Swim 1:05:48 462nd place overall and 48th in age
Bike 5:12:46 182nd place overall and 39th in age
Run 2:50:14 1st place overall and 1st in age

So while his swim isn't at the same standard as his run it is still in the top 30% of the field and ahead of over 1000 other athletes on the day.

Train safe

Absolutely. Frankly I'd be happy to swim that well.

And now lets look at the World Championships in 2004 at Kona, where Uncle Dave ran the fastest age group marathon and 2nd? fastest marathon overall.

Ok that had nothing to do with swimming, I just wanted to mention it.

Uncle was 1099th after the swim, 500-600 after the bike and then finished 99th overall.

Only missed beating Peter Reid by 1 sec because he stopped for the toilet.

Im keen to watch this on any type of media possible, Does this race get streamed? Or do i have to wait till the DVD comes out.

BTW im slowly crossing to the dark side. Ive just entered the Canberra Half Ironman for my second Triathlon. Im getting pretty excited.

Everyone who is doing Busso, please enjoy the taper and stay rested for the big race. Enjoy yourselves as much as one can after 10 or so hours of physical exersion.

Hi RD

This race is streamed on ironmanlive.com, plus you can 'tag' your favourite athletes and track their progress. I'll be doing that this year!

10 hours! I wish!

Oh yeah gang, I am out. Pulled the pin weeks ago. Been having some health/motivation issues so am just ticking along for a while to get the hunger back. No way I am going all the way around 226km just to finish. It hurts waaaay too much for that :) Probably Busso 2010. I am looking at learning how to run for a while.

The rest of you guys will smoke it!!! I have decided that the weather will be outstanding again this year so you will be fine. I so love Busso though ;)

Howdy all, just thought I would make you all jealous . . . . got to swim the Jetty twice (Last Thursday 1.15 and Sunday 1.03) both in mill pond condidtions, absolutley fantastic!

The new Bike coarse seems to be pretty protected on wide side of the road but very nprotected on the other side, so hopefully we get some good wind conditions to make for another fast year. Plus even more SMOOTH TARMAC on TUART DRV, got to love Tarmac on a bike coarse!!

Cheers

This message in from Shot's this morning.

Hi folks,

First installment of the Busso times.

Yesterday the travel gods where not in our favour. Flight controllers slept in and cost us an hour at sydney, not the end of the earth I guess.

Road trip saw ME take the gang on a site seeing trip through South Perth. We eventually escaped traffic hell (Perth style) and made it down here in time for Dinner.

Helmet, being the Busso virgin is very impressed with the length of the jetty. We will be swimming parts of this today if we can prize Aunty K away from her shopping list!!!!!!

More tomorrow.........

Good luck to all CRs and friends at Busso. Swimming around the (little) jetty at Coffs Harbour this week I was thinking of you and wishing I was there.

Wishing everyone the best down there in Busso--the weather is looking stunning so far.

Aunty K if you're into shopping, and you get a chance to hop over to Dunsborough (only 20 mins south), there's a great shop in town there called Milc. Worth a visit. Its got a smallish collection of great clothes and some cool bags, glasses, scents etc. eclectic-ish.

Hope everyone has FUN, I am looking forward to reading about it.

best of luck guys - heard the weather has turned a little today, but that's apparently not too unusual over there.

Have a great one

Best of luck to all the competitors this weekend. Make sure you enjoy the experience, take it all in cause I want to read about it in your race reports.

Cheers

Well the gun has gone off and the race is finally underway.

Luke Mackenzie is currently leading the swim pack as the leaders round the jetty.

Helmet, Aunty, Koppo, Uncle Dave, Winky and Shot'is are all out there is the washing maching that is the Ironman swim.

Swim fast and strong crew ;) I wish I was there.

...actually Uncle Dave is going to spend the day trying not to procrastinate too much by watching CR and Ironmanlive updates when he should be doing reports for school.

Go the CR crew!

Yeah Unc?????????

Latest from the Balance crew.

Swim times:

Koppo 1:03
Winky 1:07
Shot'is 1:08
Helmet 1:18
Aunty K 1:23

For anyone who is watching Winky and Shot'is are married. Winky has been on fire with her training and we need her to beat Shot'is to claim the family record!

Go Winks.

Just a bit busy and stuff to re-learn how to swim.

From what I can gather about the pace up front from IM live, it seems like pretty good conditions.

Shame to hear about the UK age grouper who broke is arm. Long way to come for that misfortune.

Good to see my occasional riding partner Ali Coyle taking it up to the pro women out there with what must have been a stellar swim!
