hey guys,
something has caught my attention recently. I realise that I have got no aerobic fitness. I run the 800m and have a pb of 2.09 i am 15 this year, i ran that time pretty easy too.
i am stuck on what i should do with my athletics from now on. I have many options on what i can do and they are the following:
-take a break (i have been training hard for quite a while[3-4months], mainly anaerobic stuff)
-build a base, 7months worth of it
-build on my speed intensely
-keep racing and doing my usual training
-anything else?
but basically, i dont know what to do with my running. i dont have good speed, but dont have good endurance either, so what should i do?
i also dont have good form, my whole upper body is not relaxed so it seems like I have to build some strength
I really want to have a solid cross country season next year too?
PLEASE I NEED HELP!?
Base Building

Firstly, congrats on the 2:09 PB, very impressive. Not far off four-minute-mile pace!
Well, summer's coming which means it'll be getting too hot for much high intensity training. It also means there aren't many races, so it's the ideal time for aerobic base building. If it were me, I'd just get out there and do lots of low-medium intensity running (e.g <165bpm for you).
That said, the 800 is so short that it's mostly run anaerobically - arguably high intensity training is the most useful thing to do! But the aerobic stuff will definitely improve your endurance, if that's your goal. Just be aware you'll have to give yourself time for plenty of speed work again before any more 800m races next year.
Running form should improve just by clocking up a lot of Ks (your body will naturally find the most efficient way to travel) though it's probably useful to Google running form (e.g http://www.pponline..../encyc/0122.htm) and be mindful of it whenever you're training.
And yes, hit the trails as much as possible. Good training for your cross country, and better on the joints etc.

There's another thread on maximum aerobic function (MAF) training in the elite section (strangely). Worth a look - some good links to resources which will help you plan.
