[Blue Dog]

Damn.

When I read the title of this thread I got excited, thinking someone else may have realised how lame CR is becoming.

Too much nicey-nice, too much love, too warm & fuzzy, caring & sharing.

It's about f#*king RUNNING, in case all you pencil-necked geeks forgot.

Over the next few weeks, I'll see if I can't help and rescue it from the new-age-anti free-thinking sewer.

Yep, me too - but then I saw the sub heading and my heart sank.

Glad I'm not the only one - I'm having a hard time working out if that is the reason a lot of the old posters have stopped posting, or if it's gone that way because they have stopped posting...  Chicken or egg???

Just an observation that as the demographic of CR has changed/evolved over the last 12 months, so has the content.  These days there are a lot more non-running threads (e.g. "What's your favourite animal?", "I love...").  Certainly when I first joined CR I could not imagine anyone starting those kind of threads without getting shot down.

I guess at the end of the day there are only so many times you can post a "Help I've got ITB" or "How many kms do a pair of shoes last?" without someone simply pointing you to the last ten threads on the same topic.  I know that from speaking to other CRs that joined up a few years ago (including one moderator) many of them have lost interest and no longer feel a part of the CR community.  It used to be that the only really off-topic thread was the thread for hijackers but now it seems to be every other thread these days.  Ironically even that thread was hijacked to the point where it became the CR chat room (when we already had one).

Sometimes I feel like coming on here and starting a thread called "Running", sub heading "For people that want to talk about running".  There seems to be more "Congratulations on reaching 1000 posts at the speed of light".  Whatever happened to quality over quantity?

I think this is the reason I know so little CR's because I just stick to the WA running threads and sometimes hijack the bigger event ones.  I don't have a favourite animal, and I'm not quite sure what I love.. possibly nothing because Monday is tomorrow.  Maybe Colsy. Who knows.

I guess i would ask those who have been here for much longer than me to try and understand that everyone has come to running and to CR at different times, with different goals, with different levels of fitness, different aims and perhaps most importantly, different personalities. It is actually this diversity of experience that, to me, makes CR great.

As someone who has frequented numerous online communities such as this over they years, i think CR stands out as being a place of reasoned discussion and support. So many sites are full of the type of discussions that amount to little more than childish pissing competitions....and once you get to a certain age, you want a little more.

Life moves on and so will the members of CR from time to time. Some will find other hobbies, become time poor, join a different site or retreat in disappointment...but while i'm here i'd like to think we can all support each other, offer encouragement and discuss whatever takes our fancy in a positive atmosphere.

CR may have lost its edge over the last year or so but it's still a great resource and useful portal for most things running, least the stuff I am interested in. I read the US ultralist and other running lists and there is far more noise on there.
CR is a bit like a magazine table in a waiting room at a doctors surgery. You can choose the trashy read or pick up something more interesting/insightful. Your choice...

as we become bigger you just need to be more selective with your reading.  i read titles first and then my favourite posters next and then I may read something from Ronnie   Although I often need to go to dictionary.com

I wasn't having a go at you. Everyone on here is entitled to their own opinion. Tetley asked whats lame with CR, you expressed a view, which I happen to respect and partly agree with.
I just think that if people don't like non running topics, they can choose not to participate..thats all, rather than complain that they exist

ratdog, I don't see why you would feel you need to suggest there is too much hugging go on? What does that actually mean anyway? Would you prefer people were more openly critical and hostile towards each other? There are plenty of other sites where that is the order of the day if that's your cup of tea.

I'm off to read the Melb race reports. The big race threads are where i find my motivation and today's reports have been brilliant as usual.

That is a example of a good thread.  Good race reports and focused on running.
