Hi,

I started running seriously in June (previous to this just did a bit a couple of times a week to maintain fitness for other sports) and have been wearing Kayano 14s. I have experienced shin soreness every now and again throughout the past few months and recently have acquired an an anterior tibilias tendon problem in my right foot. I am hating not running, and am wondering whether or not the shoes have contributed to my injury (I am sure over use has had alot to do with it as well). A friend reccommended intraining as the best place to go to get a proper fit for my foot. What can others tell me about their experience with this place? Is it worth going in?

Highly recommended. I had stress damage to left Tibia, went to intraining who told me I had the wrong shoes. Bought the rigt shoes (which actually do feel a LOT better) from them and am now slowly building my k's back up.

Cheers
Steve

I also wholeheartedly endorse Intraining, I've been there a couple of times and the staff are always so helpful.... I'm like a kid in a candy shop when I'm there though, so many cool things to buy!

The Run Inn at Enogerra is good too. Plus it's much easier to get a park.

Can't speak more highly of the crew at InTraining - my first and only podiatrists (Steve & Margot) and they are very good about letting you return shoes if they don't work out providing they're in good condition. This saved my husband the chance of having a pair of shoes that he would never wear!

Don't go there if you are in a rush (as with all shoe shopping), you need to spend the time scoping out the range and trying all the suggestions on without feeling like you have to make a snap decision. It might also be an idea to get a consult with a podiatrist while you are there to ensure that everything else is ok with the feet.

All three running shops mentioned are great and I much prefer going to them over the larger discount chains.

Margot at Intraining did a podiatry assessment for me 6 months ago and recommended a "heel lift" (I think thats what it is) for under the sole in one of my shoes. I suffer from Achilles Tendonosis in that foot. Since then I've run 2 marathons (one a massive PB), and halves (also massive PB); last year didn't finish the only marathon I attempted.

As with the other specialist running shops in Brisbane, the staff there are great and participate/support the running community in Brisbane. You won't get that knowledge and service from the big chain stores.

Despite recent posts on another thread that it probably should, I'm pretty sure it is still free. I'm sure someone from there will pick up on this thread and clarify the current policy. (I can name at least 4 active Coolrunners that work at IT)

It is however very poor form to abuse the excellent service provided by getting professionally fitted, then walking out and trying to get the products cheaper somewhere else.

No cost to be fitted with shoes although you can make an appointment with one of our podiatrists for a "Footwear" appointment and that costs $60 ( some claimable on health cover) but in most cases this isnt necessary. The staff are well trained in helping you and they know the shoes really well so will help you find what you need.
It is worth becoming a member of Intraining- for $40 annual fee you get an Intraining singlet ( very good quality silky singlets (ie my husband doesnt get chaffed nipples in them) and 10% discount on shoes. You also get discountd training groups.
Two sheds :D

Hi weetbix!

Sorry I didnt jump on earlier, Im frantically doing last minute cramming for exams too :)
Seems like pretty much everything has been covered by everyone...
Yep its definately free, we pride ourselves on superior service! Our approach to fitting shoes is clinical, and focussed on the individual, and our singlets won't chafe your nipples.
EDITED: To double check you were a guy :D
Best of luck with your exams, and I might see you when you come in!

Aidan

Is it advisable that I take my old shoes in so the person fitting can see wear patterns or anything else they may look for when finding the right shoe for me?

Definitely take your old shoes along. I think I took my old old running shoes, the sneakers I wear all day at work and even my golf shoes. Anything that can help get a proper fit.

Just got a new set myself from there. I got the "right" shoes whcih actually were much cheaper than the shoes I thought I needed. Had a run on Sunday with BRRC and I couldn't believe teh difference. Not only did I run faster but I couldn't feel impact on downhill. Definitely worth the trip to get such good service. Parking is a bitch though.

Intraining is right near Milton Station, so for those who don't want to tackle the parking hassle, you can catch a train if there's a station near you (alternatively park at your nearest station and catch the train).
