Anyone know why the Commonwealth Youth Games in India ( October) was not included as a qualifying event in the selection policy for world youth?
Oversight perhaps?

Hi Cheersquad, I have done a quick read of the selection policy(which is available on the AA website) as you say the Games in India are not mentioned as one of the events that the selectors would be specifically looking at. However it is important to read the rest of the policy, which indicates that an athlete can still be named at the discretion of the selectors.
In any case I would suggest that any athlete who has made it to India will be competing in one of the listed competitions. In the event that they do not compete at one of those events they have the opportunity to email the head of selectors to state their case.
As you suggest this would seem to be even less than a storm in a tea cup.(unless you are aware of a particular athlete who you believe is being disadvantaged)

I would like to see consistency.

It could be that the selectors have made a commitment to be present at particular events to gauge the particular performances.

For example someone could win a race (say a 1500m) and not do a great time, but maybe worthy of selection due to the particulars of the race.

If there is a specific issue you need to state what the issue is. Is there an athlete you are concerned about?

Commonwealth Youth Games Team
GIRLS
Ainsley Ackerman QLD – Triple jump
Amanda Bartrim NSW – Pole vault
Brianna Beahan WA – 100mH, 4×100m
Eloise Graf NSW – 100m, 200m, relays
Molly Grau VIC – High jump
Linden Hall VIC – 1500m, 3000m
Selma Kajan NSW – 800m, 4×400m
Alicia Keir NSW - 800m, 4×400m
Aimie Laube SA – 400m, 4×400m
Vika Lolo NSW – Shot put, discus throw
Bianca Maurer VIC – Javelin
Ashleigh Mumberson NSW – Hammer throw
Lauren O'Sullivan QLD – 100m, 200m, relays
Ellen Pearce WA – Pole vault
Zoe Riikonen QLD - 400m, 4x400m

BOYS
Sam Baines VIC – 110mH
Lee Berry QLD - 800m, 4×400m
Jared Bezuidenhout WA - 110mH, 4x100m, 4x400m
Luke Bissett VIC – Javelin throw
Thomas Brennan WA – High jump
Matthew Cowie WA – Shot put
Richard Everest SA – 5000m
Nicholas Frost QLD – 400m, 4×400m
Blake Lucas VIC – Pole vault
Joshua Lumley QLD – Triple jump
Kevin Moore NSW – 200m, relays
Huw Peacock TAS - Hammer throw
Matt Stopel QLD – Hammer throw
Todd Wakefield NSW – 1500m
Ray Williams WA – 100m, 200m, relays
Julian Wruck QLD – Discus throw

If there is no issue, then this is a discussion about something that may (most likely will not) happen. At least here we have a chance for the athletes to perform at a multitude of events. In the USA it is based on the result of one race, with no appeals or other comeback.

Mostly AA selection policies are crystal clear, but I think there has been an oversight here - don't you?

No - AA selection policies are riddled with the d-word. clear as mud usually. Lots of arguments. It's the way it is with AA. Its not just youths or sprinters but Marathon runners and distance runners get stiffed big time also.

If as you say the athlete has 4 qualifiers(no doubt in India) do you believe that the athlete will not get another qualifier in the upcoming meets?

I doubt it.

AA World Cross Country Senior Men Selection - Ground Hog Day...why have a trial if you were only going to select 3 already penciled in. Why waste everyone's time and money going to Canberra. The best 6 (max number) should go and if AA are broke, give athletes the option of paying their own way. Not having a scoring team is embarrassing and AA are totally wrong - what are they thinking!!!!!
