I saw Melissa's 11.33 - she was very impressive. Quite lucky in that her heat only had a +1.9 tail-wind whereas one of the other heats was +3.1 and some of the heats actually had head-winds! The wind was quite flukey on Saturday.
With talent coming through like that it's a bit of a shame there's no longer a program for sprinters at the AIS.

Anyone know why the news items on fox and the daily telegraph and AA website about breens sprint have not been put on cr - it is big news for athletics - would be nice for the sheltered track athletes to get a bit of positive publicity once in a while
C'mon cr you can do it.

I would have to say that the women's 4x100m team looks more likely at this stage to make it to Berlin.
You would have McLellan (11.14s PB), Breen (11.33s), Attenborough (11.43s) and Henry (11.69s) (or Tauro, Verlinden, Harris)
Men's 4x100m is more capable of running a fast time, with :
Johnson (9.93s PB), Ross (10.08s), Miller (10.17s), Rouge-Serret (10.36s), Burgess (10.34s), Gallic (10.37w)
Just need for some of these athletes to improve like McLellan did when she went from 11.4 to 11.1.
Cheers

Just found the article stating that Miller had retired at the age of 24!
Happily retired at 24, and suggesting that he really had no chance of running much faster and matching with athletes from overseas!!
What a sad day in Australian athletics when we lose an athlete with such natural born talent. It looks as though Batman has also retired, leaving no sprinters holding an AIS scholarship (Patrick Johnson not being funded in 2009).
I just hope that the younger athletes are not put off by what Miller has said about his 10.17s 100m PB!!
We can still put together a fairly competative 4x100m team, so hopefully the younger athletes can shine just as Shirvington and Johnson did over the past 10 years.
Is sprinting dead in Australia? Should we really concentrate on other events leading into the 2012 London Olympics?
I wonder what Melissa Breen thinks of Miller's comments? If she thought about it too hard she would be retired at the age of 20!!
Cheers
Chris
