Hi folks
Felt a bit grotty and sweaty on Saturday but decide to go for a run in the evening (a few weeks away from Singapore Mara). A dull pain on my LHS (started at lung on front and worked it's way round the back as well) got worse as I ran which became a walk/jog which became a walk. Found it hurt more when I went down hill or basically jarred my body. Rested up the next 2 days went out for a run on Monday evening and exactly the same type of doubling-up pain on the right hand side after 10 minutes running so walked home. Walking is fine. Only when I inhale very deeply does it seem to get tight at the top of my lungs and only when I run does the discomfort become unbearable.

Aaannnnyyywwaaaayyyy - fever came on big time yesterday - proper man cold
As for the sore chest, ecg and chest xray are clear (angina & pneumonia unlikely) but watching out for a smidge of bronchitis...

Is my Dec 7th mara doomed with a chest infection 2-3 weeks out? I'm ok to not be training with only a few weeks to go - I've done the miles and got a 30+k in there before I fell ill. Just wondered if my chest will be up to it if I have even a smidge of bronchitis?

Follow up with Dr on Thursday to review.

Hi Psychochicken, yes that was me - got ITBS 6 weeks out from GOR. Good news is that I successfully rehab'd that after that and have had only a few minor niggles preparing for this one over the last 4-5 months which I suspect will be harder than GOR in many ways - heat and humidity are no joke.

EDIT: Struggled through an 11km walk/jog with a little chest-related difficulty 2 days ago (Sat) but came though a 15km yesterday no worries... looks like just over a week to recover. Reverting back to my taper schedule ;)

Nothing like a little unqualified medical advice thrown in for sport... but I say pump the Vit C.

I take it (4000mg per day) to treat my nasty asthma and it's awesome for lung issues (it's all I take at the mo, which is impressive).

GOOD LUCK!!!

The general rule is you don't run with any sort of cold or bug that shows symptoms below the throat. Take a week off, or you'll mess yourself up properly.

Trust me. I know what I'm talking about on this.
