Forget the Olympic Games and World Championships. The most prestigious event on the international swimming calendar will soon take place in Melbourne.

Known as "The Stephanie Rice Wannabe Cup", a no holds barred three way sensational summer slugfest will see PEEKIE, Dizzey and staypuff battle it out for the coveted trophy. Awaiting the winner is the ultimate accolade of world swimming supremacy, a plastic cup engraved with a hot knife!!

Don't miss this incredible event that promises to be bigger than a "Who Will Draft Ben Cousins" story.

Kicking off at 3pm on Saturday December 20th in the vicinity of Brighton Sea Baths, come along and cheer loudly as our three international stars negotiate the 300 metre course!

Absolutely, just mentioning the word "wetsuit" is a crime that attracts the death penalty!

swimming really is a challenge.

I stoped wetting my suit many years ago, and am not at that age yet when it returns.

Unfortunately not. I am going to try and do a few "Open Water Swims" in the coming few months though. I think I like it better than running, but I'm not giving that up any time soon!!

I was planning to do Brighton as my first swim of the open water season too but haved stuffed (medical terminlogy) my shoulder and haven't swum in 4 weeks. I'm hoping to be back swimming for the Willy 2km on Australia Day.

I could always just do it with one arm ;) as long as I've got my trusty wetty :)

OK Princess, I mean staypuff.

No wetsuit for the "SR Wannabe Cup" challenge and I will swim the 4k in March with you!!

I think I owe you at least that much for plodding around for 21.1ks with me at the Sandy Point Half earlier in the year!!

Looking forward to the SR Wannabe Cup on the 20th!!

The williamstown slsc australia day swim has 1km and 2km options. It's a fun day, really well run and often very flat conditions too.
Are you and Dizzey thinking of the Sorrento-Portsea in March?

The tri starts at 8am and the swim isn't until midday, lots of people do both. I may even be one of them. Why do you need a partner if you don't mind me asking?

Let me be the first to congratulate runningaway sara who put in an amazingly gutsy effort to finish the 4km at Brighton today in very challenging conditions for her first ever open water swim.
WELL DONE MATE ;)

Thanks Al- I can't believe I started, finished or that I sobbed so much at the end. I have never been so relieved to stagger out of the water. Great swim by you!

Well done PEEKIE, alisonjc and runningaway for your great efforts in the swim on Saturday. You all did a fantastic job in pretty trying conditions.

Hope to see you all at the Pt Leo swim on Boxing Day. There is a good chance I may sink to the ocean floor after Christmas dinner the day before, but then again it might just give me the energy I need!!!!!

Don't forget the "SR Wannabe Cup" challenge on this Saturday. There will be a training swim after the event for anyone interested in coming on down at about 3:00pm at Brighton Baths!!

Well in perfect conditions and in front of a sell out crowd of 20,000 paying spectators, the Stephanie Rice Wannabe Cup fizzed with a distinct lack of competitors! With the crowd and hordes of press reporters all busting for some action, the atmosphere was deathly!! Where were our gutsy and talented competitors??

It turns out that they were mustering for the start at the Brighton Life Saving Club, almost a kilometre away from the correct venue!!! Wasn't it Roy Orbison who sang about a "communication breakdown"??

Standby for a rescheduled event that promises to be bigger than the World financial meltdown on a date to be fixed!!!
