Who is doing Canberra HIM this weekend?
I know Ratdog is. What about Will?
We have a post C2K breakfast in Jindabyne at 8am, so may be coming through Canberra around 11 or 12. Depending on what Spud and Sub50 want to do, we may be able to stop by on the way home.

Here's hoping local boy Adam Holborrow can use some of Berkel's mojo for a win. Bryan Keane may be hard to beat though

As for miners, will we never hear the end of Berkel's win on the weekend?

mmm... now this is interesting B+
I send all the best for those competing on Sunday. I feel I could go there & race as well... but won't tempt it at this stage.
Enjoy the day!

All the very best to all CRs doing the race, especially RatDog in his first HIM. Go mate!
Don't forget to eat up on the bike, and pace yourself pace yourself pace yourself.
You'll be fine.

It's a course worth riding over prior to the race if you're unfamiliar and you have the time.
(edit - forgot to mention Berkel)

Wildthing says it was absolutely freezing in Canberra but that Ratdog finished around 6 hours - maybe a few seconds under.

Here is the brief story from my watch.
The day was cold 12-10 deg C, bloody windy and overcast, with the occassional sunny periods.
The swim was pretty choppy and somewhat hectic but i finished the swim in the 40 minute i had expected.
A long run to the transition zone and by the time i got to it my feet had thawed out it if felt like the rocks were shards of glass.
A pretty slow T1 then onto the bike with out any problems.
Straight into a mean headwind, but since it was a circular course, it wasnt too bad. the worst bit was at Coppins Crossing when the wind would either throw you from one side of the bridge to the other or be right in your face for the uphill. A flat tyre at the 21 km mark on the first lap made me lose 10 minutes. and a chain loss on the 3rd lap, made the cycle leg a good one.
T2 was really quick and enjoyable, with me able to grab my CR hat and the old faithful running shoes. I had a great first lap of the run course with me passing people at will, then i started to feel ill just as i was about to have a gel. Because i didnt have the gell i lost all energy and realised i had slowed down as i wasnt passing anyone, and the occassional person was passing me.
At the 13 km mark i had 49 minutes to travel the last 8.1 km and that made my pace about 6:13 to reach my sub 6 hour goal. I had a few really slow kms but new i could bring it home quick with the right mindset. There is a little hil over the back of the course which forced me to walk due to a slight niggle of a crap in the thigh, but as soon as i had it to the top of the hill i was off again. At the 19 km mark it was looking as if the sub 6 was gone. I dug my heels in and just started to power on, and in doing so missed the 20 km marker and thought WTF. I did the last km in 3:55 by my watch and smiled as i crossed the line in 5:59:55.
A very happy chappy considering the conditions and lack of preperation for the event.
I was aiming for sub 6 hours.
swim 40:05
T1 5:10 long run from the water to bike
ride lap 1 1:07:42, flat tyre
ride lap 2 1:02:23
ride lap 3 1:06:06
total ride 3:16:12
T2 1:20
run lap 1 56:00
run lap 2 1:01:25
total run 1:57:25
grand total 5:59:55
Thanks to the support from KB and Helmet, and the Balance Tri Club out on the course, it was really nice to have someone there to cheer me on.
Wedged will report his events tomorrow im thinking, i wont steel his thunder.

Congrats to Rat Dog and all other CRs out there today. You have all earned your towels and ironman validations on a very tough day for racing.
Hope to meet some of you in Port Mac next April when we can all celebrate our ironman journeys together!
Love Winks!

Like, just how soft are these triathletes? One of their gu's flutters away in the breeze and they panic and pull out?
Guess it takes a runner like Ratty to show them how it's done.
Well done mate. See you at Port.

Outstanding time too, given the conditions. I wonder how you'll go, now you have an idea of wha to expect?
Congrats to all CRs who went the distance. To those of you racing Port in April, I will see you there on cheersquad duties. (RD - time for me to return the favour, if you take the plunge!).
