My vote would be for U17 1500 Metre Gold medallist Jordan Williamsz. He ran 54.3-54.5 (timed from video) for the last lap and only got serious 300M or so out for his 4:04. The field walked through 400 (71), 800 (2.20), (1200) 3.23. The last 500M was a massive kick down between between the top 4. Splits for the leaders 1st 500 (1.30), 2nd 500 (1.24), 3rd 500 (1.10). Has to be seen to be believed. Great effort after winning the 2 K Steeple and silver in 3000M (both PBs) and the very difficult news his grand dad had just passed away.

Very impressive 100m, 10.51 by 17 year old Jake Hammond from NSW even though it was with a 3.1m/s tail wind.

The highlight certainly wasn't the closing ceremony

What about QLD'er Jack Currans 8:52 in the 14yrs boys 3000mtrs he played with them and kicked home to win easy, several others around 9 minutes as well, bloody fast age group this one !!!!!!!!
People talk about Cameron Page and Ryan Gregson, but neither of these guys could pull these sort of times at age 14 ??????

yehh true but wait untill he's their age and see if he's still keeping up with them, i don't think you can compare them because there's so much improvement in teenage years

South Aussie Brett Cartwright ran an 8:52 and 8:58 as a 14 yo in 1987, while U15 Vics Michael Power ran 8:53 in 1991 and Stephen McMahon 9:00 in 1987 - Qlder ran Alex McDonald 8:57* in 1982. Jack is very physically developed for his age!! McDonalds 8:57 was the Aust All Schools U15 Record, when odd years where used.

I can only watch kids athletics with awe. They are just kids. If asked to pick a highlight for a meet, it would nearly always be the efforts of someone I know. Might not be the pinnacle of athletic prowess.
Having said that, I was surprised to read that "People talk about Cameron Page..." That's so cool. Cameron sure isn't talking it up himself, so I guess it's nice that people out there he doesn't even know, think he's good. For the record (because it is still a record in Little Athletics NSW), Cameron ran 8.50.6 for 3000m when he was 14 (in the U15s) in the afternoon, having run 4.10.3 for 1500m in the morning. Thanks to Gosford Little Athletics and LAANSW for their archived info. Go Cam :-).

Lots of good highlights mentioned in this thread. The highlight for me was seeing a tall skinny NZ boy (whose name I did not catch....I had never seen him before), whip Richard Everest in the 18/19 yrs 1500m.

Now that is a top effort, bearing in mind just how good Everest is at the moment. Everest broke Ryan Gregson's Aussie junior 3000m record running 8.00.7 in Adelaide last week. You must remember that Gregson had brought Craig Mottram's record down from 8.02 to 8.01 a year ago. Everest is a mighty 1500m runner as well, with a pb of 3.48....at least; a time that he can surely smash next time he lines up in one; my guess is he is now in 3.43 shape at least).

In fact Everest is lining up against Australia's best in the Briggs Classic 5000m race this Friday night in Hobart. Can he break the national junior 5000m record as well? He will have some of Australia's best 5km men to push him along, including Ben St Lawrence, Michael Shelly and Collis Birmingham.

So well done to the kiwi lad on hwipping Everest. What is his name?

Still regarding this PSG meet, did this not double as the Australian All Schools championships? Funny, as AA did not hand out medals to the top 3 Aussie kids in each event, just the top PSG kids. I havn't investigated thoroughly, but just based on kids I coach, two of them were not given the national medals they deserve. Zach Rea came second in the 15 years boys 3000m to Mohammed Ali (yes that really is his name and I am not sure if he can box very well) from New Zealand. That makes Zach Aussie champ.....but no gold medal. Rachel Howard was 4th in same age group in girls 3000m but 3rd Aussie...again no medal. What happened to the Australian championships? The kids called up AA about this matter but were basically told to stop being pests. Maybe there is something writen in fine print about it but I don't really care; it was an Australiaan CHampionships.

I thought it was doubling as the Australian Championships too, so surely these kids deserve national medals. And shouldn't the other kids have got 2 medals - 1 for PSG and one for Aust. Champs.
I wasn't at the meet, but the highlight for me was hearing that one of our juniors ran 6.10 in the U16 Steeple to take out 2nd place. ;)
What impressed me was an hour later, we had a 1km time trial, and I ran 3.05 and was completely stuffed, but this kid had just run 2 of them and jumped steeples ;)
