Hi everyone,
I was wondering if any of you could recommend a Cardiologist in Melbourne Northern/ North Eastern Suburbs?
Today for the first time I had some dull ache in my chest while running.
I have recently started running, (Im up to week 5 of C25k) and would like to get my heart checked.
Many thanks,
Terrie

exertional chest pain/ache?
the only sensible advice anyone can give on-line is to seek medical attention right now.
if you are 'low risk' any decent emergency department can sort out chest pain and all things going well you wont need to see a cardiologist at all.
if you are not 'low risk' then even more of a reason to see someone right now.

Yes Ive not ever had any chest pain before when running ( or if you could call it running, Im very slow and only recently started C25K, those walking probably would walk faster than I could run)
Today was the first time I ran straight after breakfast, which was cereal and milk and a cup of coffee.
Usually I would run at around 10am, and just have my morning tea ( usually a piece of fruit) about 30 mins before. So that was different in that it was first thing after breakfast ( around 7am).
I have slight nausea ( very slight).. no chest pain now, it was only that small ache that came on while running. Soon as I stopped and started walking it stopped.
Far as risk, Im in late 40s, no heart problems in the past, Both my Mum and Dad have leaking heart valves though werent diagnosed with that till well into their 80s..... My Mum is now 88 and My Dad was 89 when he died a couple of years back, so not sure if its considered risk or not for me far as heart health goes. I did ask my GP once If I needed to be checked for that, and she said no, and that at that age ( in the 80s) its common for elderly to have leaking valves.

Safest bet is to go to ED where they will do an ECG and check your bloods. You don't want to muck around with chest pain, go and get it sorted.

if you are in your late 40s and have had exertional chest pain you should not be wasting your time posting on the internet.
you should be seeking medical attention right now.

I left to go to the hospital just after I posted previously, after reading your post.
I just got back from the hospital, They did a few tests, and ECG, Chest XRay and Blood Tests for Heart enzymes, all 3 of those tests came back as normal.
They booked me in for a stress test with the cardiologist ( at same place) tomorrow morning, I have to wait until then since hes not there for those Tests on Sunday.
Im hoping the stress test comes up normal too. The Doctor said that it could also have something to do with my esophagus, though they want to rule out anything heart related first.
Thankyou to both of you for posting, being a new runner, and all very new to the whole "Exercise' thing in general, I really appreciate your advice,
Terrie

The Stress test came out normal. Negative for whatever it was they are looking for.
At max heart rate and after 3 hours of fasting, I was dying of thirst...... certainly more exhausting than my slow jogs .......hehe.
