For those who want to stretch their legs . . . or more!
The Challenge Series is a mass participation national multisport series in seven cities across seven states, incorporating fun runs, lake swims, junior races, an Enticer triathlon, as well as Sprint and Olympic distance triathlons from Friday to Sunday of designated weekends. The Canberra Challenge is being held in Commonwealth Park from January 23-25. We've billed this as the multisport series for everyday people, hence our tagline: "Swim. Ride. Run. It's In Everyone".
The event kicks off with fun runs (2.5km and 5km) at 6.30pm on Friday evening (Jan 23) along the Lake Burley Griffin foreshore, along with a couple of lake swims an hour earlier. You can stick to running, or add another couple of disciplines.
Saturday hosts the Enticer Triathlon (375m swim, 10km ride, 2.5km run), which is a shorter version of the traditional triathlon to entice novice competitors where they can sample the sport on closed roads and in a less intimidating environment. There are also junior races of varying distances for kids aged 7 to 15.
Sunday 7am (Jan 25) is start time for the Olympic Distance Triathlon, which is an age-group qualifying event for the World Championships on the Gold Coast this September. The Sprint Distance Triathlon starts at 7.30am. Numbers so far indicate this will be one of the biggest triathlon's held in the ACT, and with a huge finish arch and carpeted chute, the race site should look quite spectacular.
All competitors receive varying product (including cloth bags, backpacks, caps and towels) with their entry fee. For further details and online entry visit www.challengeseries.org.au
We hope to see you there.
