While trawling the multi-sport pages, I was reminded of another race I have in my 2009 wish-list. The first NSW instalment of the popular Tre-X Off-Road Triathlon Series which originated in SE QLD a few years back. It's being staged from the grounds of the Del Rio Riverside Resort on the Hawkesbury, near Wiseman's Ferry on the 29th March.

Website is here. I also recall flicking through a recent Aussie Tri Mag and noticed an article about the race series in there - can't remember the mag or the issue number though.

The race on 29th March features a long course and a short course distance:

Long - 500m / 17km / 6km
Short - 350m / 5.5km / 3km

Should hopefully whet the appetite for those who were teased by the introduction of Xterra to Aus in April last year, but then disappointed by its cancellation for 2009.

Lots of accommodation options at Del Rio Resort. On enquiry I was advised it's a minimum 2-nights stay for the cabins. Might look at camping down there myself

Clashes with the Hill 2 Harbour in Newy so I won't be able to make this one. Sounds like fun though!!!

According to the tariff page http://www.delriores....au/tariffs.asp it is a 2 nights minimum on all weekend accommodation during that weekend being shoulder period.

Going to cost you $60 unpowered or $66 for a powered site.

I think the events are going to be blast. Hopefully I am off that weekend and will compete in the long.

check out the water ski parks on the other side of the hawkesbury too for accomodation.....my sister has a van directly opposite del rio there is also the wisemans pub/inn in town...and really nice looking accom at the golf course (not the del rio golf course, the one in town). i'm seriously considering this one...although i'ld need to steal a mountain bike for it....and learn how to ride it! hahahhaha. looks like such a fun event though!!!

(is it sad that i just want to go to del rio and play on the tramboboline?)

NO! There was one at the last place we camped and it was so much fun... Have to get on before about 9am though or the kids take over

...and of course it's hard to bounce and not get your beer all frothy!! gotta love that camping is like being in international waters......

I have camped at a place with giant adult trampolines and I think it was the most fun I have ever, ever had!

Back on topic, I am mighty annoyed that I am going to be overseas on the 29th of March and will miss this - it looks like a great event, right up my alley. I did think about skipping my gran's 80th.

Why do all the events that I'm interested in always clash? There is the Herald to Hill at Newcastle, local Triathlon club event and the Tre-X-Off road Tri.
Being new to Tri I will go the local event for the exprience, but then again I feel more comfortable on my MTB and off road running.

great fun there yesterday - although the mountain bike is one BRUTAL course. Old CR friend Highay Man also had a go and beat me home by about 12 minutes. Great accommodation set-up at Del Rio. Just hard to get in and out via the 2 ferries (long delay on the trip back)

Had a great talk to the organisers - they're planning on setting up a couple more races along the east coast and are travelling around looking for likely spots in the next month. Keep an eye on their site!
