Hey all

I just thought it would be nice to get an idea of where everyone is staying and when they are arriving and leaving.... and also perhaps where they're travelling from (for some added "trivia").

Personally speaking I will be arriving from Perth probably on the Friday before (17th) and leaving on the Monday (20th) but I haven't booked flights or anything yet.

More than likely accom will be at the Rydges ;)

Slightly unrelated but what's the after party situation usually like?

I'm driving down Saturday morning leaving Monday whenever and staying at Telopea Inn right on the start line, a very popular motel with CR's.

The after party is at Rydges starts at 2 or 3.

A lot of runners stay at the Pinnacle Apartments. They have 2 & 3 bedroom fully self contained apartments at a reasonable price & the spa baths a great after the race.  If you can get someone to share with you, or bunk down with someone who has a spare bedroom it makes it very affordable. They are also within 500m walk from the start/finish and close to many very good restaurants. I will be staying there Saturday & Sunday, as I have been for many years.

Yep this year the Pinnacle after a couple of years at Rydges. I have stayed mostly at the Pinnacle in the past years and great facilities and close to the start and the cafes at Kingston. Also Saturday and Sunday for me.

The Rydges Sunday aftenoon is I think the best CR get togther after a marathon. Good venue, reasonable food and usually the pleasant warming afternoon sun is on the outside area until late.  ;)

Well, i just tried to book online at the Rydges but it said the two nights were not available, so i looked around and found the Brassey. It's close to the start too, and it's cheaper. So I'm booked in for Saturday and Sunday night, with free breakfast, parking and newspaper for $145 per night.

I'm going for the Brassey too. It's close to the start and has the best reviews for a reasonable price. I just typed "Hotel telopea park canberra" into google and I got a map of all the nearby hotels, with reviews and links to their websites.

I can't sleep that well before a marathon anyway, so I might as well have slept on the pavement!

Rumour has it that The Ambassador and Lady Ambassador may take lodgings at the Brassey also.

We're in at the Pinnacle again, but don't make the mistake we made last year. Three flights of stairs are a long way to climb after a marathon...  :D ;)

I booked into the Diplomat hotel. Seemed to be a very good rate on Wotif compared to the rate that was shown on their website. I stayed at the Rex last year and didn't rate it very highly at all.

I really can't wait until race day now.

Hi

Looking at the Greenleigh Central Canberra Motel (Curtin)

Has anybody stayed there before? What's it like?

How hard is it to get to the start of the marathon from there? (won't have a car)
What is the taxi service like there on a Sunday morning before 6am?

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

BC

I've caught cabs the last two times I have done the Canberra marathon and both proved very reliable. Hopefully that will prove to be the case for us both this time around! Perhaps leave a bit of extra time though in case that nominated driver doesn't show up.

I haven't stayed at the place you mentioned so can't help you there.

Good luck!

I've booked into the Carotel with my son and a friend of his.  I'll be running the 10 kms (must remember to get someone to looks after the kids!) and will be there to cheer on people running the marathon.  Good luck to everyone.

I have booked into a place called the Kurrajong Hotel (I think that's the name) - it was on wotif.  In Barton so should be easy enough to walk to the start line. Will be there for the Saturday and Sunday.

Getting close now ....

Staying at Forrest Hotel and Apartments eventually.  Figured out sleeping at someone's couch on a big race is not smart! :vava: Its very close to start and finish so I can crawl back easily if i can not walk after!

Had trouble finding anything much at this late stage, so I have booked at Victor Lodge just for Saturday night.  About 1km from the start line, and reasonably priced.

I will drive up on Saturday, drive home Sunday after the party/drinks.

Training now finally starting to go well, as my calf strain finally sorting itself out.  So i will be heading down Sat, staying and returning straight after on Sunday pm.  I will also be staying at the Kurrajong for the sat night only.  A short warm up walk to start.

If anybody needs a lift in the morning to the start area, i will be happy to drive out and collect.  I might even join in the Pizza and Pasta, juts see how things work out.

I was booked to stay at Carotel.  My car broke down at Berrima and I had to cancel on the day.  Without asking I was offered and given a full refund.  I've never stayed at Carotel but they have my business next time.
