Hi PB, not surprising after I read that the organisers dont want to include a HM in the program. A bit elitist I think...I would contact them.
I really do have to go into bat for Dave and Fran here.
I don't think anything about the whole Canberra Marathon weekend is elitist. Finishers are recognised front to pack in all events.
Organising a marathon, a 50km ultra, a 5km, a 10km and children's races over a weekend sounds extremely inclusive by any measure. To do it in the middle of a major city with all the flaming bureaucratic hoops that RD's must trple pike through is a testament to their love of our sport.
Dave Cundy has worked for decades to stage a superbly organised marathon year in, year out. That is something no other single RD has managed to do in any other capital city in Australia.
Yes, but they don't have a half marathon? If the well run Canberra Half in Autumn (or for that matter the SMH Half, or the SMC races) don't satisfactorally fill a gap on the race calendar, instead if complaining, go to Dave Cundy with a written proposal incorporatng a traffic management plan, council, police and RTA approvals, sponsorship and enough volunteers to make it happen, and I'd wager he would be fairly encouraging and receptive.
If that sounds like a lot of hard work, that's because it is, though it is a lot less work than that which goes into making Canberra Marathon weekend a success.
Rant over. I feel happy now.
