Thanks Sook - it was perfect conditions and the perfect race
I had agreed with Sean that I should try for 6min at 2Km and hope for a decent finish - the splits were all spot on (no more than 1 second off pace on any lap), there was almost no wind, it wasn't too hot (perhaps 25C) and I bludged off Adam Lauchlan-Bowlby (we train together) and Nathan Sutherland. And I felt good all the way too!

I note looking at the WR's for the marathon the absence of the 53 year old Israeli Seteng Ayele who finished 69th in the Beijing Olympic Marathon. He ran 2.14.21 as a 48 year old and 2.16.59 as a 51 year old, yet the WR's for M45 is 2.15.51 and M50 2.19.29.
I think the mighty Fossil could have a good crack at 4.12.5, 4.40.4, 8.57.28 and possibly even 15.37.0
Personally, I definitely think the 1500m is his best distance, 4.12.5 is a mighty run, Fossil has run quicker and continues to improve, it could be sub 4.10 next season.
My favourite Masters WR's are by 11 season NFL wide receiver Willie Gault, M45 10.72 and 21.80...that just blows my mind!!!

For a State record (you need to be a member of the State Masters Association) you get a form signed by the Chief Timekeeper and Meet Manager and send it to the State Statistician (at the State Masters Association) - they then liaise with the National Masters Association if it's a national record and the National Association issue the certificate and register the record. I can only assume the national association register it as a world record in the same way.

Some great info there MizukiNoguchi, you are obviously on the 'source'.
As for ratification, my view is that it shouldn't be dependent on belonging to this or that body. Every national association should have a statistician that follows up on performances and looks for the latest lists. The international mob should (and does) have the same.
Therefore, for road times, they presumably get or see a report of the time, then do the necessary verifications...if the course is certified, other evidence as required etc, would it matter if it was Joe Blogs that ran it...its a WR.
Same (or even easier with track)...if the runner is unaffiliated (as some runners are in the US) then it shouldn't matter. If the evidence stacks up and the necessary protocol was followed (eg drug tests etc) then its a WR.
Those marathon times by the 51 yo look untouchable, awesome...to me that IS the WR...makes this 51 feel so ...inadequate, but at the same time shows that age is not a barrier all the time.
Of the 55 yr WR's you list, I would say the 5000m is a lot 'softer' than the 3000 and Keith's times at present...so a potential WR in the bag there.
Willie Gault from memory is an OG sprinter of the Carl Lewis era.
thanks for info
cheers

Also, agree that the 5000m is softer than 8.57 and 4.12, i just think that Fossil is best suited to the 1500m, he would destroy the mile record if the opportunity arises. The 15.37 isn't out of reach though, but if he can't get it, hopefully Jamie Harrison, Paul Arthur or Mona could get it.

I am overwhelmed by the CR support
15:37 was my target in the 5000m a few weeks' back until the plans had to change because of the heat and wind - training times strongly suggest that sort of time so I hope I get another chance at it soon. As for the 1500m, I cannot see me bettering last years' 4:11 but that doesn't mean I won't give it a go :-)
And as for Jamie Harrison, Paul Arthur or Mona, I can feel very heavy breathing down my neck!

The fact that you keep improving with age is great motivation for a lot of us young runners, and the support and information you passed on to do the junior runners in the central west was greatly recieved.
You truly are an inspiration to me and many others and your a great ambassador for the sport, if only you wern't a pom

An update on this anomaly. It appears the WR's have more rigorous data than IAAF.
Seteng Ayele is actually Ethiopian born Israeli Ayala Satain. He migrated to Israel in 1991 under the Israel's Law of Return scheme to Jews (Operation Soloman?). His birth year was misinterpreted when registered in Israel because the Ethiopians used a different calendar to the Gregorian.
He was actually born in 1962 rather than 1955, so his times above were run as a 41 yo and a 44 yo (43y 9mths) respectively, which are still good times in their own right.
The M50 2:19:29 is correct and held by Titus Mamabolo of South Africa, another fairly late starter to the elite ranks (because of the SA separate system before) and conforms to age group holders having a limited period of performance.
cheers
